As I said in the title the DVD comes out Oct 23rd with some really nice special features and extras but I find myself wondering if there is any chance of a NA release.. This would be pretty amazing: DVD sells well in Japan, we get it, and JC does a season two!

DVD Update: I spoke to Fuji Creative Corporation in regards to the possibility of an Aoihana DVD and this is what they said.

Dear Mr. M____,

Hello. My name is S____ S____ (Mr.) of Fuji Creative Corporation. I am
responsible for licensing our anime for territories of the U.S.A. and
others. I was forwarded your email below addressed to our general mailbox.

First, I would like to say thank you for your interest in Aoihana on behalf
of ourselves and the producers. Aoihana is a brand-new anime series which
started airing weekly in July on Fuji TV, our parent company. As for the
exploitation outside Japan, currently, the show is only available on
Crunchyroll.com for streaming viewing with English subtitles, but the
video/DVD product is yet to be licensed, should we find the right partner in
the near future for your territory.
http://www.crunchyroll.com/library/Aoihana

Here's something you can do if you will. Please send your request to publish
the DVD of the show to any leading anime DVD publishers in the U.S.A. and
tell them the show is great. We are afraid that due to the characteristics
of the genre, there are not too many anime publishers out there who are
willing to take the show despite of the quality... So your support does
help!

Thank you once again for your email and we wish you all the best,

S___ S___

So for all of you Aoihana fans out there.. follow heed and send those emails!

awesome news! Now the only question is, who are the major and minor dvd publishers in the US?

So far I only know:

Funimation (used to be ADV)
Geneon (now defunct)
Anime Works
Media blaster

Who else?

I sent some to the usual.. Viz, bandai, funimation, tokyopop, and media blasters. Oh, I also sent an email into Crunchyroll asking if they might have any info regarding the possible sale of eps. I'll post if anything else comes up.

Hmm \=p can someone copy and paste addresses to the publishers? Although I know I can just go directly to their websites and find the information, I don't have the confidence in knowing that I'll be sending my messages of requests to the right departments and so forth. My messages could just end up lost and in limbo if not directed to the appropriate places.

I'm a total rookie with how all this works. Apologies in advance. But I would love to support Aoi Hana and other animes and mangas in the future should I come across ones I really enjoy.

I'll appreciate it a whole lot!

Mitase,

So far I've written to RightStuf, MediaBlasters, and Funimation. Anticipating it'll take awhile for them to write back. Any idea how long it will take since you actually managed to get a response from FujiTV? Congrats by the way on that:).

Didn't even think about the manga publishing companies either, but thanks for the reminder!

Hmm well, give them a week or two if you wrote a letter I guess. FujiTV actually got back to me within a couple hours.. must have been when they just got in. We all know snail mail can be a pain in the butt sometimes. Thanks for posting the info lljiekuen - thats a big help! I talked to Erica Friedman of Yuricon and she pretty much said that its a diffucult process but she understands the enthusiasm for DVDs. I'll be sure to give any more info as it comes; I hope you all do the same.

Ah! =o I was just about to start messaging the main publishers until I stumbled upon this bit of news from www.okazu.blogspot.com, a very reliable website for yuri manga and anime news.

"Aoi Hana on Crunchyroll has ended for those of us who purchased subscriptions, and will end next week for the remainder of viewers. I cannot express how much I liked it. Yes, there were a few changes from the manga - in every case for the better, I thought. From beginning to end it is one of the best anime I've seen in the last few years and an exceptional example of schoolgirl romance Yuri. The 11 episodes covered three volumes of manga and, as of yet, there are only 4 volumes out so it may be some time before we learn if there will be a second season. However, I want to address a question I keep getting about this anime.

Crunchyroll *is* the official licensor of this series. It's not a "maybe" or "kind of" situation. If you are interested in a DVD release - as I am - you need to address that to Crunchyroll directly. Please don't email other companies and ask them to be interested in this series. Let Crunchyroll know that you want to purchase DVDs. You will probably get back a "we're not doing that right now" email. Don't be offended. The guy who answers the email is not the guy in charge and right now they don't have a DVD release model. Be polite, brief and clear and if enough people make the point, they may be motivated to find a way."

I hope I don't get in trouble for copying and pasting that whole bit there but I just wanted to make things simpler for everybody if at all possible -_-

Woot Sillygerl that's awesome news! At least that limits our writing down to Crunchyroll for the DVDs. Now we'll just have to figure out on the manga front. But thanks for passing along this news!

Didn't know that Crunchyroll is an official DVD licensing company...learn something new everyday:).

I'm not the person in charge but I talked to him directly about this a couple of weeks ago and he said that he hasn't heard of any plans for us to release DVDs. We don't retain any DVD distribution rights for any of the series we have and currently don't have the facilities, money, staff or time to manage that. So another company will most likely have to come along and pick up those rights.

Please do not email [email protected] regarding this. I am the only one who answers those emails and that address is for asking for help with technical aspects of the site. For business questions you can email [email protected] but you may or may not get a response.

Edit: The "Support Form" on the contact page only gets sent to [email protected], so please don't use that either if it's not a technical question.

Thanks

Thanks for the info BasouKazuma :O

I wonder if there might a chance we could get the individual episodes or the entire catalog put up for sale (CR store). The next best thing to a DVD would be a digital release with special features in lieu of a hard copy. Any info on this would be greatly appreciated!

I got an email from FUNimation

Thank you for your email and input about Aoihana. We are constantly researching new acquisitions but I have not received any information about which titles.

It's okay. As long as it gets a good reception in Japan and if they hear more about it over here someone is bound to license the series for DVDs. Really all depends on how well it sells in Japan, which is not something we can control if we live anywhere outside of Japan.

I heard back from RightStuf as well, and they basically said the same thing as Funimation minus the youtube and Facebook stuff. That's all for now:).
