Do Your Parents Support You if You can Draw?
Posted 9/18/09
I don't think most parents care. Maybe when we're little, and then stick our drawings at the fridge.
My parents don't care, but my dad said everytime when i draw, it doesn't look like the person im drawing.

They don't support that I'm good at drawing They just want me to become like a doctor or something instead of something that has to do with art.

nope

"Mom look at the drawing I did for my book cover"

Looks at me work for a second. "Nice"

Brother comes along and says "I did my homework!"

Mom gets all excited and stuff

My parents... well, I guess they care, but they care more about my grades than my hobbies. I don't really care though. Also, I love drawing.

They do... they actually want me to study art for college but due to the school being too far away(and since I don't wanna leave my home), I chose a school closer and I now study programming instead but they're still supportive of me. My dad even downloaded videos from the internet that shows how to draw manga so that I can study and be better. My mom on the other hand bought me really good colored pencil and my aunt bought me sketchpads and such... so I guess that my answer is yes.

My dad supports me as in with all his might .. He bought me a graphics tablet but not yet delivered lol but my mum is totally against it because I draw people from animes & mangas and she always says "You're wasting your time on that rubbish again" which makes me cry a bit because I'm really a sensitive person .

My dad actually wanted me to draw and write and because of that I fought against it for a while.
It's sort of nice when parents want you to express yourself, but I'll just say this.
When they take you seriously as my dad did, you had better be prepared for honest criticism.
If he reads or sees something I've done, he will tell me exactly what he thinks is wrong with it.
That can get irritating. When I was in school, I made a conscious effort to hide my work from him.
Also when parents are interested in that sort of stuff, they are usually shunned by other adults. I wouldn't wish that on someone.
It's depressing to watch.

If I can draw, and make money, then they would immediately support me. >:\
