Letter Bee sounds promising. From an astronomical perspective, if a planet was continuously dark with only starlight showing through, wouldn't it be frigid? Maybe it's in synchronous orbit around a dim star where half the world is always day and half is always night (like Remus) and the atmosphere transports the heat around the globe? Ah well, I'm sure it has a more supernatural explanation.
