There's no way my computer can run this game... so my only option left is to wait for the PS3 version.

Too bad it doesn't come till mid-2011. *sigh*

If you pre-ordered should check with the store to see if they are doing Midnight release.

The game is beautiful. The GUI can be moved around so you can customize it. Also not much has been said about this... but you can customize your job so to speak. Let's say you have rank 6 Pugilist and rank 10 Lancer. You get a set amount of points you can use to set abilities. Use those points to pick from both jobs and you can create your own personal job set. The Surplus exp that everyone has spoke of isn't that bad since you can do this so it will help you level up more than one job so you have access to more abilities. I'm loving it so far. I'm waiting for Midnight on Tuesday the 21st!

I say give it a chance. Still have time to try for free with open beta!

(I have played FFXI for almost 6 years i'm used to the way SE runs an MMO.)

I agree. I played FFXI for 5 years too and I'm used to the way SE runs the MMO. Unfortunately I have absolutely no time for the Beta... And I can't seem to find my Security Token (if you know what that is... I'm assuming Kaihri does)

I played FFXI for a little over a year, (since its release to when WoW was released) and this game just didnt click with me. I was really excited about it, but after playing the beta for a couple of weeks, i was really not impressed. The story line was a lot of fun and the graphics were not bad at all, and the music was great as well, that being said, i did have a few problems with the game. The first issue i had with the game from the beginning was the mouse, i found it extremely frustrating.
I only played in Gridania, so i can only judge based on that city.
- The city lacked the city feeling, very few buildings and very spread out. Windurst was a tree city, but still had a sense of being a city.
- Vendors for specific items were rather annoying to find, weapons for the other jobs were not exactly intuitive.
- The GUI felt like the game was optimized to work on a PS3 and not on PC, And when changing jobs, the action bar was reset. which was somewhat of a pain.

The one big problem i did have with the game however, is the lack of an AH. There are multiple trading areas, however they dont have a specific item type designation. Finding the specific item you are looking for could take a very long time. It was necessary to examine every seller's inventory in multiple trade areas in order to find a specific item.

The game was not bad overall, i simply dont feel like the game is for me.

I'm excited for this. I've been a FF fan for a long time ( as you can tell from my avatar). Me and a friend are getting the game together and going to play it. I saw some video of it, the controls look a bit odd, but since I've played WoW for the last 4 years I'm probably to used to that.

They're different. Always been way different from one another. I played the Beta, which was kind of fun. FF Online has always been this way for me: My computer is always just too old to run it and allow it to look beautiful. Because I have to downgrade my settings so much I lose interest, so I didn't even play through my beta.

Thats too bad. Have you played any other similar games you can relate it to based off of play style? My friend and I are feeling burnt out from Cataclysm expansion and such. So we're going to start this. Just looking for some advice and such from those that have some good knowledge on it.

Eh, unless you have a computer that is maybe a year old and isn't something you bought at Best Buy or some other electronic store (e.g. you built it) how you see Final Fantasy 14:Online is going to be pretty shitty. My computer is old as far as computers go and when I played the Beta with the graphics and everything on high everything lagged and lagged and lagged.

Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: System manufacturer
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 FX-62 Dual Core Processor (2 CPUs), ~2.8GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM (8 gigs)
Available OS Memory: 7678MB RAM (7.7 gigs)
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce 9800 GTX/9800 GTX+

I'm willing to bet if you don't have at least a quad core processor and a decent graphics card that the game will probably be pretty much shit. Of course you need to have other decent parts in the system. Your computer is only as fast as it's slowest component, after all. I built my computer when BC was still the cool expansion of WoW and at that time it played everything in that game beautifully. But now the graphics that they are implementing in Wrath and in Cata is taking a toll on my computer so it's about time I upgrade my computer here soon. Just need to get the funds.

As for World of Warcraft, there have been a lot of changes that a lot of people now have no reference to. I've played the game since Vanilla. When it was JUST World of Warcaft. Since it's beginning days the game has made classes more... similar. Warriors used to be great on one on one tanking in instances and paladins (if allowed to tank at all) were great for aoe tanking. Now both classes can one on one tank and aoe tank about the same. Druids used to only be good at one thing: healing. Feral or bear druids were not allowed. As BC happened they were given a more wide range of things to do.

The reason that they are mashing almost all classes to basically be the same with some differences (e.g. no diversity) is because instances have gotten smaller. We have gone from 40man (MC, BWL, AQ40, Naxx) and 20man (ZG, AQ20) instances from Vanilla to 25man and 10man raids. I also remember a time when random pugging groups for UBRS and LBRS were 15man instances!

I've only played WoW and FF:Online (I played 11 and I played 14 beta). I always come back to WoW. It allows more free-range, I feel. Yeah, FF is a lot more attractive if you can see the graphics, but WoW gives more free-range, I feel. I can jump, the party-system is usually more enjoyable, guilds are more enjoyable (though with the new guild achievements I'm not sure how it's gonna work... or if I like it).

I feel like I'm rambling now and throwing walls of text at you lol.

Just wanted to let of you know that those of you have not yet played it and have an older model CPU. A duel core has huge trouble playing this game. I never really thought much about my Cpu so I invested in a large GPU.PS/HDD and tower but you really need a quad core. IF you still insist to play this game there is an option for lower end CPU models if you have a decent-lower end machine. I highly suggest running benchmark first I scored a 2500 on it which is playable on the lowest of settings. Anyway if your playing FFxiv and it your computer shuts down, turn her back on then start task manager and go to CPU Usage/performance. Start ffxiv and watch to see how much your computer is using. For me once I started playing my Cpu Usage would go to like 99% causing it to overheat and crash Anyway to go back to processes find the ffxiv exe file right click it go to affinity and change it to 1 cpu. This will cut your cpu usage on ffxiv in half but cause the game to lag more but being able to play more is better then not playing.

Kerosin Heiland <~~ That server that starts with T in ffxiv (Thabia I think?)

I found an excellent thread online dealing with PC requirements for FFXIV, for anyone who has questions whether their computer can handle it or not.

http://killingifrit.com/forums/topic/182501-ffxiv-pc-requirements-guide

It includes a very thorough list of hardware that will allow you to run the game well.
