you can't possibly eliminate every single form of communication. Even our eyes can express some emotion or feeling. What about communication within ourselves? Thinking is a form of communication as well or do we end up as vegetables?

Haha I've thought about this before. If you saw a rock, you wouldn't think 'rock'. It would just be an image. There would be no other words to recognise it if you had no language to describe such thing. Just a visual stimulus. :S You mentioned sound... that could work hahaha

George Orwell said just as much when speaking of Newspeak, a system to regulate language, and, therefore thought- you can't think a thought if you haven't the words for it. But, all that is rubbish. Say that there does not exist any form of communication between humans- there are no words and no thoughts. When the man sees the rock, the image of the rock goes through his head- then he relates it to similiar substances- images of those running through his head- and then he, in his primitive mind, would realise that, with all the common properties these objects must be of the same genus- of course without any words, just as a new born babe would realise the same, and still lack the capibility of coherent communication.

My brain hurts...

I thought you might enjoy this quote:

"The fish trap exists because of the fish. Once you've gotten the fish you can forget the trap. The rabbit snare exists because of the rabbit. Once you've gotten the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words exist because of meaning. Once you've gotten the meaning, you can forget the words. Where can I find a man who has forgotten words so I can talk with him?" ~Chuang Tzu

This is something that i have thought about and discussed a few times in the past. The truth is, when you actually think, when you truly plot out a situation in your head, it isn't in any language. For instance, say you are driving down the road on a rainy night, you come to a street light. You think you have room before you start to break so you keep going, not noticing the car 25 feet in front of you without tail lights. You finally see the car, it is so close. A crash is imminent. It is in this very moment, this split second that one truly thinks. Feelings of fear, regret, worry for your loved ones. All these emotions boil up on top of the thoughts of your current situation (which is the crash) without language.

So to answer your question about the rock, one would simply have 'feelings' toward the rock. Saying 'here is something i can throw at someone' without language is not as hard as you would think.

Hmmm... I think that having the ability to feel is a form of language. So if you are aware of the rock you are still communicating because you sense it. Your eyes are processing an image and that image is being communicated to your brain through different sensors in your body. If there was no language I would have to agree with some of the previous posts that everything would just die because there is no way for you to evaluate your world.

And to evaluate your world you have to sense it. And to sense it means that your body has a way to communicate with different parts of itself. Even the fact that you are aware that you are looking at a rock means that an internal dialogue is going on within you and technically you are still communicating with yourself.

I think there would be a social kind of communication in the society, but silent. E.g., first some people walk on the sharp rocks and eventuelly gets hurt. Because other members of the society sees this processes, they don't stop on the rock themselves. I guess you could consider this some kind of social communication.

If we were blind (or had no eyes), but still had feelings we might walk on the rock, and hurt our feet. Maybe we eventuelly would evolve to have harder skin on our feet (instead of evolution of eyesight). So we won't have the need for communication of the certain object.

were humans we have to communicate
is like with deaf people they don't know how words sound, therefore they can't say it
but they communicate with there hands
because everyone would always be eager to communicate somehow what we are thinking

According to Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, without words or language we would not be capable of thought or at least of categorization. More recent linguistic relativity would contend that language influences some cognition (e.g., color perception) but other processes exist universally.

A world is barely anything without the things that we have. Thinking about not having any of those two, how do we even consider ourselves humans? Where does communication come in?
