I usually like anything Production IG is involved with, but what is this show like? Why do you guys like it? I kinda want to check it out but I feel like it's one of those animes that will start really really slow but once it picks up it stays really interesting and you can't wait for the next episode.

Is my suspicion correct? If so, about how many episodes does it take before it gets rolling?

Also, what's the tone of the show and what's it really about? I can't really trust the descriptions for most anime if it's made by the creators. CR describes School Days as some happy go lucky harem show... but anyone who seen it can quickly tell you how bogus of a description that is and that's it's actually the polar opposite of what the show is.

Hmmm. O.K.

This is a fantasy series, set on a world similar, but far different to our own in an era of limited technology. There is a marked emphasis on character development and world building that I don't usually see so thoroughly explored in most anime series.

I guess the best way to describe this show is that the focus is on storytelling. The story begins with the central protagonist as a child, learning from her mother. The story evolves as the character grows, changes, and learns more about herself and place she chooses for herself in her world. At around episode 7 there is an abrupt and drastic change in the circumstances of the main character. I don't really want to give too many spoilers away, but if you make it to that point, you will will probably be so engrossed in the story and the way the character is growing throughout, that you will want to continue watching.

The problem I can see for many viewers is the pacing of this series. It reminds me more of a novel in some ways than an anime. This is fitting, since it is based on a book series. For me, that is not a problem. I love to read books, but not everyone does. Revelations about this world, the events therein, and the character herself are exposed in sometimes very subtle ways. Not in a splashy, action based way. So far I have not encountered any overtly obvious and obnoxious plot devices or fan-service, which is a very refreshing change. (I am in the mid 20's as far as episodes go, as of this writing).

If I had to compare my personal experience while watching this show, I guess I would say that I have the same engagement with this story as I did when I was reading Patrick Rothfuss' epic fantasy, "The Name of the Wind". It has similar emphasis on character and storytelling.

I hope this helps. I don't really want to reveal spoilers (it really bugs me when I get unwanted, revealing spoilers).

If you go to http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/review/beast-player-erin ANN has a review that I believe is very balanced. I think you will get a good feel for what Erin is like by looking at this review.

Personally, Erin is worth watching. It is an anime that provides a well told story and a journey worth traveling.

All in all this anime had a lot going for it, just pretty slow-going in a few places ^^

Irin is set in a fantasy world, no cars, nor modern anything, sorta like the middle ages, Irin is the young daughter of the villiage's animal doctor, But simply put, Irin is about the little girl's having to deal with both tragady and triumph, througout her growing into womanhood, and it's her quest to become what her mom was, in her own unique way.

I've only seen a few episodes, but what I've seen of erin and the supporting cast, it's one heck of a good ride. I recomend everyone to watch it, at least once all the way through.
