Chapter 1

Gaven rode his horse down the rocky, crooked road. He shivered under his heavy overcoat. Winter was coming, the trees were almost bare. Letting out a breath, he looked towards the stars, he assumed it was somewhere near 11'o clock. Pm. Fudge. He'd been riding too far,for too long. He should probably find an inn to stay in for the night. There was a old wooden inn on the side of the road ahead, by now it was without a doubt closed. nevertheless, Gaven unmounted his horse,Pryde and banged the brass knocker as if to wake the world. A irritated man peered out. He was sturdy but short. "We're closed." He stretched the words as if speaking to an impaired person. Gaven yawned. " Yeah and I'm tired." He rummaged through his pockets and rested his hands on a cool , weighted item. He dangled it in front of the man's nose. It was his rank, his status, his title, his authority, his everything. the inn keeper's eyes widen,he unlatched the door hastily. He stuttered an apology, Gaven waved it off, pressing a handful of coins into the innkeeper's hand, Gaven let himself in.

Gaven awoke to an eerie sound. He had only slept for roughly 2 hours before the spectral sound dragged him out of his sleep. He looked out his window which faced the oak garden behind the inn. Dimly lit by the moon, only the outline of the garden could be seen. When Gaven squinted his eyes, he could make out the outline of a small figure. With curvaceous body, it was beyond any doubt a female. She was naked other than a pale white nightgown that trailed in the frosty grass. For sure, the cold bit at her skin, whipped her hair but she showed no sign of cold. Her hands were up at her face and her head bent, as if she was weeping. The uncanny sound continued. How could a human make such noise?

Kurt Lanskin's palms were sweating as he strolled silently back to bed. Jesus Christ. Prince Gaven Levine had paid a great deal for his stay and yet he had coldly approached him, the 11th Prince for god sakes. For sure, he was sinned. He signed, sinking into bed. Winfrey, his wife aroused. “ Kurt, who was it?”, she murmured drowsily. “ The 11th Prince of Dahana.”

His wife chuckled halfheartedly. “ No seriously.”
“I'm serious.”
Winfrey bolted up. “What?” She sighed, “ As if one royal in this crummy inn wasn't enough. By golly, I'm too nervous to sleep.”
“Mmmm.” Kurt was already dozing. He should probably sleep while he can, tomorrow, he would have to serve Prince Gaven, 11th prince of Dahana and as if that wasn't enough, the first princess of Kadir.

Gaven work up the second time, but by then, it was morning. Unable to resist, he leaned towards his window trying to spot the weeping maiden. Gone. Of course, who'd stay in the garden weeping through the night? He laughed at his stupidity. “Prince Gaven.” There was a gentle knocking sound at his door. He hurried into his day clothing. Slowly the door creak open. Darn. He shoulda locked the door. Now, he was half dressed in his pants but his shirt was still unbuttoned, exposing his well built body. A girl about the age about the same age as in...15 give or take poked her head in and blushed. Her auburn hair was in a messy bun that perched on the top of her head, to be honesty she was quite attractive, probably better than a majority of the girls her age. Gaven paused waiting for her to leave and apologize, but she couldn't seem to stop ogling at him. A slow smile creep across his face. “Ahem.” She blushed deeper, suddenly coming out of the trance. “Sorry.” Her hair disappeared behind the door and the door closed. He could her faint but quick footsteps patter away.

Gaven walked down the creaky staircase. Gosh. Someone should invest some money into fixing this place up. “Prince.” A woman around the age of 30 , bowed her head. He nodded taking in the kitchen and all. The girl who had come into his room blushed and turned her back to him. Kurt Lanskin stood abruptly and bowed. “ Prince, pardon my behavior yesterday.” Gaven smiled. “I-I-I-..” The man trailed off. I was tired. That was what he was going to say. That was the excuse for every inn keeper. Gaven sat down at the table. “ Oh, by the way, the was a disturbance outside last night.” He took a sip of his milk. Ugh. Peasant food. The others stared at him. “There was a girl outside, in the garden.” Kurt chuckled.”Oh that was Lady Autumn I suppose.” Gaven was puzzled. “Who?” “Autumn, Lady Autumn.” The peeping Tom girl had finally spoken. “Uh huh. Well, I want

her to be punished. Disturbing a prince's sleep is inexcusable.” Gaven knew he was abusing his power but it was the only thing he can do to mask his confusion. The three people exchanged looks. Then Kurt started chuckling and the others soon followed. “My dear prince, I'm afraid you're in no position to demand that punishment.” Gaven glared. What? He was Prince Gaven of Dahana, he had absolute power over all commoners. “Oh? And why is that?” Peeping Tom girl giggled. “Lady Autumn, as in Princess Autumn of Kadir.” Oh. The heir of Kadir. Kadir. The kingdom of power. As if Gaven wasn't embarrassed enough, the front door of the inn opened and in stepped,a girl with striking cold, green eyes and light brown hair that went up to her waist. Princess Autumn.

Chapter 2

Gaven
She didn't even glance at us. Just rushed panicking upstairs. I looked at the others confused but they just shook their heads and grinned. There was rummaging sounds coming from upstairs and then after several minutes she barreled back down the stairs now in a boy's collar shirt and pants, and out the door as if she owned the place and there was no one else. Gee, either she's self centered or she's ever oblivious of her surroundings. Kurt chuckled. “That's Autumn, once she's set on something, she's gonna do it.” His voice was full of admiration. “What's she doing with boy clothes?”, I asked, if she wanted to disguise herself its not gonna help, with a body like that, the long flowing hair, and flawless face, no one but a blind man would mistake her for a guy. The others exchanged looks. “ Climbing a tree I suppose.” Peeping tom girl's face wrinkled in disapproval as she said that. Winfrey tsked, “I swear, if that girl wants to fly, she'll make it happen.” The was a yelp and a hissing sound coming from the front yard of the inn. All four of us quickly bustled to the window. Sure enough, Autumn was up in a tree trying to reach an enraged bundle of fur. Her hand I noticed was coated with red. Blood. Her's or the cat's you couldn't really tell, the cat's coast was filthy and had crusted blood on it. Gosh, if I were her I wouldn't touch that thing. The Peeping tom girl made a sound of disgust. “Ew. God, what is that thing?! What's she thinking? Bring that in as a pet?”
“Now, Lynn, we should keep thoughts to ourselves, even if Lady Autumn won't admit it she's still a princess by law and princesses have to be respected.” scolded Winfrey. That caught my attention. She got to be the heir of Nadir and she refuses to be a princess? Heck, I would want to be the heir of Kadir even if I had to be a princess, yes, even if it meant changing my gender. Kadir is the wealthiest kingdom with the most captivating scenery and oh god the power. I heard a snaring sound from outside the window and I turned my head back. The princess had successfully captured the little fur ball and was now holding it away from her body as it clawed and struggled in her hands, when did she come off the tree? Then she seemed to notice the 4 of us staring at her dumbfounded. She stared back at us, her face unreadable. Peeping tom girl, Lynn pasted a false smile on her face and waved. With a nod of acknowledgment, Autumn crouched down on the ground setting the creature gingerly down but not quite letting it go. Kurt left to work the stables and Winfrey went to change the bedsheets and Lynn simply lost interest. I was the only one who stayed at the window. I was the only one who saw Autumn's face twist into a tiny smile.

Autumn

Hell. I did it. I caught a Colin. Well, not exactly, more like taking advantage of it's weakness. But nevertheless, I found one. When I first saw it, it was up in the oak tree with one of it's wings teared and he was covered in blood. It was too high up for me too reach and I was wearing a dress. I sighed and then ran. Must hurry. If it saw me, it might flee damaged wing or not. I thought. I darted of the Inn stairs, cripes, people would really fix this place up, maybe I'll leave a bit later just to make sure it was done. I went into my bag and pulled out a pair of pants and a plain white collared shirt. Damn, that might get bloody, if only she had another color. Oh well, once it's bloody, it'll be a different color. Besides, I can later dispose of them so father won't find out I was wearing them. I slipped out of my dress in one single motion and into the breeches and threw on the shirt.
When I got back to the tree, I kind of skidded and the creature glanced at me. It hissed but didn't leap. I scrambled up the tree quietly, but swiftly. It screeched at clawed my hand. Cripes, not that hand. If I let that hand go, I'd fall. I winced as it dug its nails into my skin. It pulled back for another attack. At that moment, I pulled myself up and wrapped my hands around it's small body. It snarled and struggled. I swayed on the branch a bit. I glanced down. Uh-Oh, Climbing up was a piece of cake, but climbing down with a biting struggling Colin was not. I took a breath and jumped. To my relief, I landed lightly on my feet instead of thudding, tripping and breaking something. The Colin shuddered but calmed. Good, I thought. Then I felt eyes on me. I looked up. Kurt, Winfrey, Lynn and a new boy in fancy clothes ogled at me. I stared back. I know most people didn't approve my anti-feminine ways but still. Lynn broke into a smile and waved. Hmph. Smile at my face, talk behind my back. Then I crouched, examining the cuts and tears on the Colin. It didn't struggled anymore, actually, it seemed to press against the palm of my hands for reassurance. Awww. I couldn't help letting a smile slip onto my lips. I stroke it's little furry head. It whimpered. Oh right, right, wounds first. In one quick movement, I stood. But when I looked up, the boy in fancy clothes was only a few feet away, staring.

Gaven

She looked up at me, saying nothing. We stared at each other for a few moments before I glanced at what was in her hands, Oh hell! A Colin. It was bleeding, or maybe she was bleeding, or maybe both, still couldn't tell. She kept staring at me with her bright green eyes. “What?” She asked bluntly. I opened my mouth but no sound came out. Heck, I didn't even know why I was there in the first place. I cleared my throat. “ Erm.. that's a fine Colin you got there.” She snorted. “ More like the only Colin in this entire forest.” That was probably true. It was hard to find a Colin in their native kingdom of Ashdir, much less here, the halfway between Dahana and Nagour. Errm. I cleared my throat again. Jesus. I have know clue what to say. I laughed mentally. The great Prince Gaven didn't know what to say. I swooped down to my knees to take her hand but the vile Colin hissed and clawed at me. She smirked down at me. I stood uncomfortably, straightening my shirt. “Well, Princess, I'm afraid we haven't had proper introductions. I am Prince Gaven Levine of Dahana.” She stared at me her face now stricken. “What did you just call me?” I blinked. “ I- er- Princess?” Her eyes hardened. Without a further explanation, she strolled passed me. “ Since we just me, I'll let it go this time.” And then, she was gone. The nerve of her! Although my kingdom's power isn't as grand as hers, she has not right to hold grudge against me without explanation. Gee, I wonder if all the maidens of Kadir are as self centered as her.

Gaven
It was late afternoon before I set off for Dahana. Her highness and I had never spoken again tho I've seen her wandering the halls of the inn cradling the Colin. Her left hand had been bandaged and the Colin had been fixed up so that it was no longer coated with blood. I rode Pryde faster and faster as I approached the castle. The commoners bowed and some of the ladies flushed at the sight of me. I grinned. If only the Princess of Kadir had reacted to me in such ways. The drawbridge came down with a creak and a slam as I neared it. “ My Lord.” The guards at the gates bowed. I hastily slid off Pryde, letting him aloof in the castle gardens. “My lord.” Servants and maids who passed smiled and bowed at my presence. I located my family in the dining hall when I heard Lev, the 9th prince, and the unstable one if I my say so myself, whoop with joy and the rest of my brothers rumbled with laughter. I nodded at the servant guarding the door to the dining room. He peered into the room. “Prince Gaven is here.” Westley, my favorite brother, the 10th prince jumped from his seat and met me halfway into the room. “My dear brother Gaven, you will never guess our good fortune.” He was smiling. At 18, Westley was good-natured about almost everything. His gleaming blonde hair would attract as many girls from Nagour to Ashdir yet he was not the kind to break poor girls' hearts. “What?” I grinned back at him, his smile contagious. His already beaming grin widened as he said, “You, Lev and I will engage with the 3 princesses of Kadir.”
