Smart Gilas with Serbian Coach Rajko Toroman(he's the best) during the FIBA - Asia Champions Cup which the finished 5th.

Coach Rajko Toroman during the 2008 Olympics with Iran.

The Smart Gilas team has been rigorously training under the European style of play under coach Toroman. During the 2009 preparation, the team has had exhibition games with local PBA teams [2] teams where the games were tightly matched. After their brief stint of local competitions, the team went to the United States briefly and held a training camp in Las Vegas, Nevada [3]. They had scrimmages with American Basketball Association’s Las Vegas Aces, where the results were surprisingly in favor of Smart Gilas. The Smart Gilas team also won admiration in their 5th place finish in the last FIBA Champions cup where our young guys displayed skills, quickness and hustle against taller and bigger opponents.

Notable games

vs Sangmu (Korea) 90-76 - WIN
vs Mahram (Iran) 98-87 - L
vs Al Riyadi (Lebanon) 91-87 W
vs Al Qadsia (Kuwait) 93 - 98 W

vs Al Arabi (Qatar) - 76-71 - L
vs Sangmu (korea) - 78-98 - W
vs Satria Muda ( Indonesia) - 112-107-W

FIBA ASIA CHAMPIONS CUP RECORD - 5-2 - 5th PLACE

Considering that these guys just graduated or are still in college, they performed EXCELLENTLY against the TOP Professional Teams from the TOP Professional Clubs in Asia.

Other games :

vs Powerade Team Pilipinas(PBA National Team that represented Philippines in the FIBA-ASIA Championships which finished 8th) - 69-98 - WIN

vs Singapore Slingers - 70-67 - WIN (Smart gilas had an incomplete lineup, the result surprised me because I thought they'd pulverize the Slingers since Bball in Singapore is not THAT good. Singapore was helped by 2 American Imports)

I'll keep you guys updated alright. Try to search for Chris Tiu's blog in the Internet.

Foreign Girls would love him! (SOBRANG CHEESY)
