Shizuka Kamei, state minister in charge of postal reform, said Wednesday he has picked former Vice Finance Minister Jiro Saito as Japan Post Holdings Co president to succeed Yoshifumi Nishikawa. The announcement came a day after Nishikawa announced his intention to resign due to a government policy shift on Japan’s postal privatization.
Saito, 73, is currently Tokyo Financial Exchange Inc president and chief executive officer. Saito’s appointment is subject to approval by Japan Post’s nomination committee headed by Toyota Motor Corp Senior Advisor Hiroshi Okuda. Kamei said at a press conference when asked about the reason for Saito’s nomination, ‘‘We share almost the same ideas for drastically reviewing Japan Post.’’
