On October 18, 2009 on the podcast on backandslash Robert Bowling the Community manager broke news about Modern Warfare 2., one of most anticipated game for this year on their decision to drop dedicated servers and mod making for the PC. instead implement a matchmaking service This sent the hardcore PC community to protest and fight against this decision, there has been over 100,000 people that signed the petition, now for creditability for each signature is uncertain. Inifinity Ward response along with one journalist in PC game Informer with crude and unneeded insults to PC Community calling them "gamers with advanced persecution complexes" or "PC Fanboys'" which even angered more the PC community.the PC user base is upset for these changes but more importantly have them told 3 weeks prior to Modern Warfare's release.

Now this boycott consist of in beginning en massing into IW's forum, canceling there pre-orders ,flooding with their Poor decision then making a web site about the event and sigs being made for the cause. Now a scheduled server sit down on the day when the game comes out Nov, 11 2009.

WHat is a Dedicated Server?(in terms for gaming)

Dedicated game server

Most games use a dedicated server application. This program collects data from players and distributes it to other players. This is more efficient and effective than a peer-to-peer arrangement, but it requires a separate computer to host the server application. The additional computer is a server.

Network bandwidth, in particularly upstream bandwidth is often one of the major limitations in hosting game servers. Home broadband Internet connections rarely provide the necessary upstream bandwidth to host dedicated game servers with more than 4-10 clients.

Now the question here is, Did Infinity Ward make the right decision to drop dedicated servers and mod making instead have them put there own matchmaking service for the PC?

*This decision does not affect the console version, just the PC version.

Yeah, I agree with you there, the thing is with new Call of duty or Modern Warfare 2 out, the longevity for the PC platform is has been diminished to a couple of months of play. I can see your point of hackers and cheater in another console although jumping into and spotted as a hacker in the PC will get you banned from a server(Permanently or punished). I'm not much of both, but just entirely not thrilled of crippling the PC version while raising the price 10$ higher then the usual cost for the Game.
