being a soldier or a member of the military means staying away from your family.
your schedule is controlled by the military. and before you decide to join, just make sure you'll take the vow of loyalty, just like how priests in Catholic church take the vow of celibacy.

and i once joined the Citizens Army Training Corps (CAT) during high school, and i must admit it was hell. the training was hell. But being a high rank officer is worth the pain. I love it when my subordinates bothered to stop on what they were doing just to give their salutations. HAHA. feels really elite. but then again, the training is HELL. it can kill you if you're not physically fit.

edit to below:
welcome, hun.

You really can't ask someone about the military without them actually being in the armed forces. You can speculate all you want about how bad or how good it is. It all boils down to how much you believe in your country and what you are willing to sacrifice and fight for.

Are you doing it for money? School options? Benefits and perks?

I'm in the Us army. I jump out of airplanes, it nerve racking and a adrenaline inducing thing at the same time. You will deal with alot of bullshit, but that's a given. You will have things that you can speak about to friends and family, that most will never experienced or only dream about.

The choice is up to you with what you want to do. Explore more options the job market, school, and military. Avoid choosing jobs they give you too if you. Pick what you want to do and is best for you.

What Branch of the military ????

I was in the army about a year or 2tell you the truth the only thing that was hard is the mental part getting thought basic training is the hardest part. everything have to be perfect. to tell the truth i think i developed OCD (not true just feels like it) just after the Army. When i was in basic About 4 people of my company Ran away while still in Basic. Here what i Did on a regular Basis Had to do Night Guard ( check in and out to see if people are in Bed ) Wake up at 5 am do work outs, eat breakfast in 5 mins, go to classes till lunch, then more classes till dinner then sleep but if some1 dose something wrong everyone will be hearing from the dill Sergent. To Tell you the Truth The military is not for nice people. If your active duty They you have to be prepared to live away from love ones. I Lost My Girlfriend just living a part from her. But the upside it will help in any career with the money for college and a slight advantage.

I was thinking about it for a while. It's a lot of hard work, and you do lose your freedom when you join, but its a really great opportunity too. The training is tough and demanding, but at the same I had comfort that every other service member had gone through the same thing too. But yeah your life is controlled by them too. I wanted to be a soldier, work hard and serve my country. But I have the feeling I'd do a better job in the public service then in the military.. ugh I'm so lazy.

Not being funny but you also have to ask yourself if you're willing to risk losing a limb or even death, in return for all the benefits you recieve by being in the armed forces. I have a lot of respect for people in the military, but I know it's not for me simply because I wouldn't be willing to risk it for a bit of a leg up in life.

Call me a coward if you want lol, but meh, i'd call it being realistic. An army is, at the end of the day, an army. You shoot people and they shoot back. Putting politics aside, you have to ask yourself if you're prepared for that. Of course you might never get posted to a warzone, but I really doubt you could bank on that in these times.

Just my two pence. Whatever you decide, I wish you all the best mate.

here in sweden almost all boys have to try out for the military.... the exceptions are handicapped people etc....
But its really easy to get away with it if you dont want to these days.... but back in the old days you could go to jail for it.

I wanted to join but my there have been alot of cut backs on the military so only the best can join in the end. And my eyesight isnt very good so.....yeah....
I have some friends in the military now though.

It looks like fun

well my father is in the military and he loves it but if you cant take orders and you talk back a lot don't even try it won't turn out good unless your a high rank. it sucks when your away from your family but traveling is great i've been to germany and hawaii with my parents. so it's nice but if you do join be ready for tons of work and not choosing where you go the military chooses for you.

I don't think I could do it.
I want my freedom, and I'd rather not be shot at.
I'm kind of a wimp when it comes to to those types of things =_=

Very well said.
I have family members serving in the military.
I pray every day for my cousin's safety whose in the army over at Iraq.

Well, my mom was in the military. And once she got out she told me to never join the Army unless it's something you really want to do, or else you'll find yourself in deep shit. So basically, the Army isn't for everyone.
