both are fun, but
electric: easier to hold down cords and less blisters on finger tips
acoustics: tougher but portable

The acoustic is a great way to start guitar since it'll build up finger strength. Once you've got a handle of basic chords and strum patterns, try out the electric. I don't recommend you start with one because you'll be ripping chunks of your hair out in frustration. I tell you though, there's nothing better than shredding on the electric.

I recommend acoustic because it's better to start off with. You learn to control your playing and get cleaner playing abilities. Then you can move onto electric if you choose to later on.

Depends what style you want to play.

But with Electric guitar you could have:

and also lay more features such as sweeping, and so forth.

Both are awesome, but if ur just starting out then I recommend you go w/ acousic. It's easier to learn with, easier and generally cheaper to maintain. You can always move up to electric later.

P.S. Please dont answer with a "Choose whatever you want to play" or anything along those lines"

I play both, and have for about 16 years... i learned on Acoustic... the strings are a little thicker and help to train your fingers to press down the strings harder, so that when you make the transition to electric it's much easier..

Not to mention by learning with acoustic, you don't have to purchase an amp.
Granted during the process of learning you'll figure out that there are things you can do on an acoustic that you can't on an electric, and vice versa.

Acoustic is generally easier to maintain, there are no pick-ups or volume settings nor are there any wah bars to worry about getting in the way of learning true chords. Also Acoustics tend to stay in tune longer then electrics.. it's the nature of the strings.

Acoustic strings tend to be cheaper so if you break one then it's not that expensive to replace. They are also easier to change strings on as well.
There is less maintenance for an acoustic.

Acoustic is my reccomendation for a beginner.

Best suggestiong to get one.... Find a local pawn shop and pick one up cheap... make sure you play it a bit in the store before buying it to make sure there are not any major problems with it though... things such as a warped neck, loose tensioners, or bad frettings (trust me... you'll know as soon as you play it... it'll not "feel right."

If you have any questions feel free to PM me.

For a first guitar, I think it's more effective for you to use an acoustic guitar. Electric comes after, since you need to learn how to do the fingering WITHOUT the amps and such, since it's just WAY too expensive to get an electric for your first guitar. I seriously think you should just use acoustic, and then if you feel like you're going to stick with the instrument and you really like it, then you should get an electric guitar.
