Dramas and their Unrealistic Expectations
Posted 5/22/07
(unfortunately...)
girls,
you probably wont fall in love with the man of your dreams immediately upon seeing him. as well, you probably wont utterly and completely HATE EACH OTHER at first either (hana yori dango, devil beside you, it started with a kiss, mars, love contract and more). your worst enemy probably wont become your best friend, either (MARS off the top of my head...)
on a more positive note: never fear! in addition, you dont have to be kawaii, bubbly, good-natured etc like qi yue or makino! if you still believe that the events of dramas could happen...
be like xiao feng from love contract xDDD she was mean and still fell in love with *SWOONSWOON* ah ken (mike he <333) [but there's nothing wrong with kawaii, good natured people xP]
note: im NOT trying to be negative, or bash up azn dramas... i loveloveloveloveloveeee them! and would probably die without crunchyroll (thank you, shinji~).

Do you mean Female Fictional Syndrome? Where females watch so many dramas, stuff like romcoms, that they start thinking that real life is like that and so they find themselves being incredibly disappointed at the reality of it all?

It's something typical of females...hence why it's not called Male Fictional Syndrome of just Fictional Syndrome. Too many women get too wound up in the lives of fictional characters. It's a curse.

female fictional syndrome. haha. this is the first time i've heard of it. but seriously, i should think most of us know tha drama mirrors life. hahaha. i guess in some ways it's all just something we would like to happen to us, but it's never reality, is it?

you're so right. After watching so many jdramas I can't help but to wish for something like the stuff I watch happen in real life. I deffinently have unrealistic expantations on love. It's all fun to think about, not dissapointing! Watching dramas like these make me more spontaneous, I love it.

Man, you are so right women are totally irrational in that way, believing the myths shown to us by the mass media. Men would never do that, you dont see men getting unrealistic expectaions for their sex lives from porn do you?

most dramas are so different from real life. for example off the top of my head" Smiling Pasta". There is one and billion chance that you would bump into a superstar and the superstar would fall in love with you. when that day comes, i have a thousand people pinch so i can be sure it is not a dream

Of course asian dramas are unrealistic, but that's why I like them. Most have a running theme of not giving up, of being a good person, that anything is possible...just overall positive themes. And the crazy storylines would probably never see the light of day in a Hollywood studio. Gritty and realistic can be too depressing.

So for realism, I watch english shows. For idealism, I watch asian dramas.

LOL I find it hilarious 98.9% of asian dramas are so hilariously cliche and yes, unrealistic.

I think I know why I stopped watching them a long time ago. And for those who still watch it, I don't know how you do it..XD

It starts with the way girls act in the Drama's, most times-in romantic drama's, things work out and there's a happy ending. In real life, the guy goes for the girl whos very pretty but is a witch and the same goes for the guys when it comes to the girls. The guys may look nice, but their jerks. In the dramas i watched, for instance, HYD and DBY, when the guy that the girl(s) both liked is free, they wouldnt care about how it hurts the other guy-the guy(s) who love (her) them. I love Drama's cause thats how its supposed to be lmao
