It is confusing though because it sounds like and says Lein when you watch it.

In many Asian languages like Korean and Japanese there is no distinction between the pronunciation of the America R and L sounds

I was also confused about this, but it is Rayne, the subbers got it wrong lol....kinda makes you wonder if they're subbing correctly, eh?

If spelled in Hiragana, the name is れいん which can be transliterated 'rein', 'lein', 'reen', 'leen', 'lēn' or 'rēn'. Though, the vowel sounds like a long 'a'. It's all good I guess.

Jade is a bit closer than J.D. じぇいづ is how it's pronounced which is like "Jaydu", but the u is very short. J.D. would be じぇいぢい which you can see is spelled differently. Jade sounds feminine so I suppose the marketing genii changed it to J.D. like he's from Texas or something. lol.

The Japanese official site says "Rayne" in plain English for his name ;D

@i1abnrk: Jade in phonetic Japanese is ジェイド (じぇいど) while J.D. would be written ジェイディ(じぇいでぃ) . As for why they chose to use one writing while it's pronounced differently, who knows. Japanese people like shortcuts really lol (bc it's like that in the original game too).

Thanks for clearing that up! I always wondered if it was a subbing mistake...
