what is "truth"?

is truth relative, subjective, absolute, or objective?

also could someone define relative and objective?

i thought objective was absolute truth....

and what is relative truth? relative to what? relative to our subjectivity? so does that make relative synominous with subjectivity? i am philosophically stumped here...someone help me find the "truth" peace over war

^ lol i don't think it is :P

It's a tough question for me since lies have been spread around for centuries. people have their own conception of truth, even if it's completely false. truth is suppose to be fact that's 100% accurate IMO. but since man has a hard time telling the truth or can't find the answer to something, they lie. i'm busy so i'll edit my answer later.

so if truth is subjective, does that mean that everything everybody believe to be true is? or are you saying "real" truth is unknown? or cant be found out? peace over war

^ personal threads [asking or displaying something about just you] are not allowed

Truth is up to debate on many subjects. There are things which are generally true such as how we live on a spherical planet. A subjective truth is how pain hurts but some people derive pleasure from it, so it makes it seem as if pain doesn't hurt so the truth is left up to each person. Truth is by this way of thinking, subjective. Truth may also be seen as something which can't be obtained if we don't have adequate information to prove or deny something. Subjectivity goes with nearly everything, if you think about it.

o...wow...thats cool...but they must not inforce that rule, because every thread i make and everyone else makes is just about me or them. We all make threads to satisfy our own curiousity...to get other's inputs on our ideas...it becomes a personal vendetta...but other people just seem to relate to it as well...its a relative truth shared between every last one of us...if a topic is not personal in some sense, we would never bother to create in the first place...because we wouldnt care enough about it to waists our time...or maybe i just need a drink? peace over war

Personally, it's whatever that I choose to believe in.

It's therefore subjective to how it relates to me, when my objective is absolute.

This is true even for other people who claimed to be telling the truth, until I relate their truths with my subjectivity. When I absolutely am not their objectives. Because if I was their objective, then by our relation they will be subjecting to my truth absolutely.

OBJECTION! <--- Best internet tool ever! Personally speaking, of course.

I believe that truth is absolute and applies universally regardless of opinion.

That is the million dollar question. If anyone could actually answer that correctly I swear they must be Jesus....
or Mohammad
or Allah
or Buddah
or the Flying Spaghetti Monster
or Einstein's and Steven Hawkin's test tube baby

Then again aside from faith and logic there's another method in finding truth that I'm learning about in my philosophy course called hermeneutics. It's explained fully by Gadamer in his book "Truth and Method"

That didn't stop me from going outside of whatever institution that confined you.
