Boxee lags horribly and runs really slowly on my laptop. :S

My laptop's not too bad either, boxee just takes up loads of memory.

If you can hook up your computer to a TV (HDMI, VGA, DVI, or some other type of video connection), you can use Boxee to watch our videos on the TV.

you still miss the point that any GPU with a TV outlet can do the same job as boxee without adding additional software and using up more resources since the GPU's already have the software that runs apps on your TV including remote controls to bypass keyboard use.

your total cost beyond a GPU (which many of us already have) is a cable that reaches your TV or a wireless hub

Right true. But I already knew how to do that and Ive done it before but the quality can be drastically lost. So I thought they were saying something about it being easier to watch through your tv... guess i'll just have to wait for them to get themselves on the xbox360

This app isn't for everyone, it's just a little something extra for the people who would find it useful. I personally wouldn't use Boxee since I already have a setup where I hook my laptop up to my TV and just use my wireless mouse and keyboard to watch stuff through the browser like normal. Some people already use Boxee since it's a one stop hub for watching online videos on their TV, so this would be more directed towards those people and anyone new who would like to try it.

To the best of my knowlege, basically no anime is produced in 1080P or higher and only the newer Anime series are being produced in 720P (I know for a fact that Naruto is produced in 720P). If you're watching Anime in 1080P, it's just being upscaled and therefore you are not gaining any quality.

Oh ... now I see. This is a certain someone's new account whom I told to stop trolling the News threads with blatant lies. >_>

Although it is tempting to make fun of your English first I will refrain from that and point out that most episodes with poor quality where at the startup phase. Even better, the worst episodes have been fixed so they are now fine and frankly, the quality of the video is the same as it would be for fansubs. To call that bad quality is perhaps a matter of opinion but I guess that most people would disagree with you.

First off, BD is not a video format, it is a physical media. If you meant you are buying BD discs then you are correct, otherwise you probably mean you are watching HD content. Next, 1080p is the highest resolution supported in current HD, 1280p does not exist.

Also, a lot of shows aren't even airing in 1080p but rather in 480p or 720p. For example, if you manage to download Bleach in 1080p, good for you - except for the fact that it is not aired in 1080p. In other words, you just downloaded an upscaled episode of anime which takes more space and has no higher quality than the 480p original.

So have fun downloading all your shows in '1280p' for their 'quality' :)

On a side note: I'm hoping CR will allow third parties to hop on the bandwagon and use the Boxee interface to access the content on CR. I'm using XBMC myself (on which Boxee is based) and I hope the plugin is ported by someone so I can watch my anime fix from the couch :)

I think you miss the point. The point isn't that Boxee only allows you watch crunchyroll. Boxee is a media centre application that allows you to do everything in an integrated solution. Youtube, Hulu, Crunchyroll, South Park, etc. Boxee also acts as a media player playing any pictures or videos you own.

Can you do these things without Boxee? Yes, of course. It's about options and what people prefer. Some people love having the all in one integrated solution, and this what Boxee offers. Others love doing everything themselves, browsing to each site manually when needed.

On the member issue, I submitted a report to Boxee and they said they were going to add it to the bug report (on Sunday). The ticket was marked as solved though, so I wont get any further updates. I'm hoping they have it as high priority because I looked for a list of bugs and could not find one that they offered. Hopefully we can get member content soon as that will allow me to give more thorough testing of Boxee. As it is right now, I have no use for Crunchyroll on Boxee without member content.
