someone from my family said they managed to trace our genealogy to an outlaw that was in Jesse James' gang. Does infamous count as famous?

If you go back far enough I'm a descendant of William the Conqueror's cousin. Although I think anyone with an English lineage is also somehow related to him.

I'm a distant cousin to Elvis Presley and former President Jimmy Carter. From what I'm told my great grandmother and Elvis's mom grew up together and were very close.

I'm related to someone who's infamous, does that count? I'm related to a person from the Philippines who tried to start some revolution there by taking over the government, but he failed, got put into jail, and is apparently out of it now and trying to run in an election.

And that is the longest run-on sentence I've ever put together.

Actually at this point in time every human is in some way related to every other human, so yeah. Though I'm going to assume you're asking about being related via a person's immediate family, which I'm not.

Going off of my great-grandmother's family tree, it looks like I'm related to Charles John Huffam Dickens on my mother's side.
