Lately I have noticed that Crunchyroll get their titles from US licensing companies like Sentai Flimworks instead from actual producers from Japan itself. This may have resulted that many titles are for US only due to licensing restrictions obtained from US companies.

It is likely that the original producers, having given Sentai Filmworks the US rights, cannot give CR or any other entity US rights. And the same goes for other countries. If they have given UK rights to company X, French rights to company Y, and Australian rights to company Z, they will not/can not give CR or anyone else those rights.

This is why CR, Netflix, etc. have to license country by country. It's not that hard to understand.

However, if I was CR, I'd flex their membership rates outside of the US. It really isn't worth the whole price for what is often a fraction of their catalog.

So I have a question, what if I signed up in the US and was traveling to somewhere such as Japan, would the IP restrictions take effect and stop me from watching bleach or anything that isn't available there? I'm kinda hoping to go there for a bit eventually, but I would NEED anime over there, and I'm not really sure where I could get something like crunchyroll in japan ( not über expensive, can watch older episodes so I could catch up) :/ Of course this is when I'm somewhat fluent in Japanese (6 months learning so far). Thanks.

You wouldn't be able to watch on CR. Couldn't you just watch it live on TV though?

I would, and like I said I'd be there once I'm fluent so not a big deal (at least for the most part) but it'd be like always only watching simulcasts on CR and I wouldn't be able to catch up too easily if I fell behind :/

You probably won't hit one of those series, because they're hiding the ones you're not eligiable to watch. This season started out with a few animes that I had looked forward to, but suddenly after episode 1 they just remember "HEY, THIS SHIT IS PROBABLY NOT AVAILABLE TO DENMARK SO LETS GO BACK ON OUR WORD"

I once respected what you guys did Crunchyroll, but now it's seems you've decided just to exploit us loyal fans because you found it profitable.

Refund everybody you've scammed for their money or MAKE THAT DAMN ANIME AVAILABLE TO ALL OF US. It isn't about licenses not being available for our regions, it never was, it's about you being greedy and pleasing the masses and trample all over the minority, because the minority won't notice it.

Our Site News posts clearly state which countries each show is available in. If a show was available in your country and later was not available, that would be due to a mistake with setting up the restrictions which was later fixed. The reason any show would not be available in your region would be because we do not have the right to provide it there. So there is no conspiracy and we do not just restrict certain countries because we want to. If we could stream a particular show worldwide, we would as that would only be positive for Crunchyroll as a business since it means more people watching and more people subscribing which translates to more money.

So the issue is, and always has been, the ability for us to obtain the proper license from the publishers in order to stream particular shows worldwide.

As a new convert to Anime. I like to support things by paying for it.
But im considering cancelling my paid membership due to the fact I can't watch half the shows im interested in.
Either can't be viewed in iPad or get region restriction message.

So where is the encouragement to support the industry by letting people choose what they want to watch?
Why shouldn't I just go to some torrent site and download the shows I want to watch with out restriction and screw the Anime industry?

This needs to be sorted out ASAP other wise those of us who want to do the right thing will leave and get what we want illegally.

The iPad problem can be solved by going to the CR website on Safari and go to the episode you want to watch. Select "Watch now" at the episode and you will switched to the app itself and the video will play after the ads.

On region restriction, Crunchyroll has been offering very little show outside US since their main partner, Kadokawa Pictures offering simulcasts on Nico Nico. This is a BIG mistake as not many people watch legal simulcasts on Nico Nico compared to Crunchyroll. This means lower profit and it means there won't be any chance future Kadokawa shows would be available outside US. I have emailed them about this matter and it seems they are ignoring it. Crunchyroll won't be doing anything to solve this matter since they do not want to lose rights to stream the second season of Kore wa Zombie Desu ka? so they can't really help us since their own hands are also tied.

I'd be interested what anime I lack and if it's worth to pay for premium membership in the future. Here's the full list of anime available for me:

http://i.imgur.com/akxt6.jpg

It only lacks two titles in the H category that are not present in the image. Those are: H2O: Footprints in the Sand and Hanasaku Iroha.

As for Drama I can only watch Black Rat Episode 1 and Oppai Chanbara - Striptease Episode 1 in Japanese category. Kinda empty there.

I have a premium membership and despite the fact that the animes i can watch are fairly limited i still feel as though it is worth it, not only can i watch unlimited anime for as little as $7 a month without ads but its opened up doors for me to watch many less popular animes that i probably wouldn't have been interested if not for the restrictions placed on the fact i live in Australia. Although it is frustrating and i do think that reigon restrictions should be lifted I think it is quite easy to say that crunchyroll is a brilliant website, everything we watch here is distributed legally and provides the people who make the animes with money so that this area of buisness does not die out, yes we can go and torrent various series but eventually the anime industry will die out because they're not being provided with the money they need to continue making these videos for us.

I know this post is quite late and that this thread has pretty much ended but i feel as though this does need to be said.
