I love to do an experiment.. (I can not help it, I am a scientist after all)

We have 2 groups we lock in there own rooms, with a tv, food, bed, bathroom... but they can not leave for a few years. one witch everything is done for them such as food made for them, TV shows chosen for them, bed folded and room cleaned and folded for them. and the other group where they have to choose and make there own food, do there own cleaning, and they have all the tv shows with no blocks and it is up to them to choose what they want to see or not.

If this experiment was to take place...
what do you think the scientist and people would learn from it? (do you think this experiment would aid us in understanding why people act and think the way they do?)

Makes me thing of Conan, volume one: the frost giants daughter. A group of immortals lives forever but because they have servants doing everything for them they get board and go mad. They all wind up throwing themselves off a cliff. I rather imagine it’d be like that. Scientists would learn that if I were in the group involving cooking, we’d all die from carbon poisoning or inhalation of smoke.

Well If people are going to die from it, I don't think I could get the funding for it.. DAMN!

For a scientist, you brag too much about your "position" or "years of knowledge(?)" in this site. I can see you became accustomed to the CR forums and the usual forum posters.

Should you be more active and broaden your audience to other sites like Yahoo Answers [for scientist sake of pursuing what's beyond]?

Anyway, back to the topic:

Well, I consider both scenarios a luxury.
They don't have to worry about bills, earning money, or jobs -- which are some factors that promote stress.

Group B makes them appear more independent. But, how much a person appear independent is still in question.
In that group, one person might prefer to clean his/her place once in a week.
The other person, in that same group, might clean his/her place whenever she/he thinks the place is becoming an obstacle.

I would like to take out the TV and replace it with a radio instead for both groups.

Well for a scientists you sure do spout a lot of philosophy, since you're asking us to do a thought experiment. I don't think much would be gained from this experiment since it's already commonly known that the less stimulation a brain has the less functional it is. Reason being is because the first group doesn't have to think in order to live and the second group does. The first group would definately be a lot dumber than the second group. Other than that I don't see any other significant insight that can be gained. It'd be a waste of money to do the experiment and it's also a bit unethical. Not only that but it could create permanent change on the test subjects life much like the participants in the Stanford Prison Experiment.

Does the people in those 2 groups taken randomly? Do we have specific details about their behavior or traits? Has any further details about their age? What is their works? Do they only have to take their time without works (group 1)?

However, if the participants only being chosen randomly, scientist especially physiologist would learn human's behavior more and able to read the differences after 1 year. For politician and government, they'd able to know whether people would prefer to being controlled by them or give them free will to decide what they'd like to do (Communist and Democracy). For Atheist and religious people, we could see whether people would really likes to follow laws given by God or rather that knows the best for them or rather choosing their life without direction at all.

Btw, I think I heard some experiment similar like this.

'To be a good test the age group has to be spread out.'
I am thinking 100 people in both parties ranging in age, sex, and race.

As for your Communist and Democracy comment.. You be surprised how lacking in freedoms a capitalist democracy really has. (they only give an illusion of freedom.) There also forms of Communism that can give off more freedom than a democracy. I just might get into that sometime, once I start feeling better.
