There is absolutely nothing weird or wrong about it, as long as you KNOW the character isn't actually real. I'm guilty of it myself, but I know they are just cartoons and not real people.....much to my disappointment lol ^^" (jk)

Besides, if you have a crush on an anime character, than the personality traits that character has are traits you find attractive in real people who share those similar traits, so you can kind of learn from your crushes on anime characters, in a way

I wouldn't fall in love with an anime character, for the same reason that I wouldn't become a fan of a famous person. Because they're just my own projections. But I would never call it unrealistic to find attractive characteristics in people, fictional or not, caricatures, animals, or even inanimate objects. We are attracted to them for a reason, because they relate to our (many) important childhood-to-teenage experiences.

I think the main reason people develop attraction towards anime characters is that they are more understanding of people than most that live in the real world, also they are made to be incredibly attractive physically with interesting personalities, and quite often you can relate to the person the characters affection is directed at, e.g Sakurasou no pet na kanojo, main character is average at most things, not widely popular and not highly attractive, but Shiina (the main girl) is highly attractive, incredibly talented and falls in love with him. It's an ideal world that alot of people wished existed, so developing crushes on anime characters is perfectly reasonable.

I guess I'm just not masochistic enough to have a crush on someone that I literally have no chance with. Not like, "they're out of my league" no chance, because you don't always know that. More like, "the don't even know I exist, and they don't actually exist" no chance.

Rather than masochist, it sounds more like an delusional idealist.

It is....strange I guess. Although I have had "crushes'' on anime characters. But it's nearly the same as people having crushes on actors, actresses, and television characters. But like I said NEARLY the same.

I don't think it's weird to have a crush on an anime character. Hey, I'm guilty of that. There are some characters that are attractive to me. I do think it's weird to be in love with a character. To me, it's not okay to consider yourself in a relationship with an anime character. They aren't real no matter how much we wish they were.

It is perfectly normal to be in love with Kouko Kaga... I mean with anime characters... Believing that they are real and that you have a relationship? That is called being delusional and you need to have your meds checked by your doctor to make sure that you have the right dosage to eliminate these problems... Tell her that Ultimate-Madoka told you to come in for a check-up, that will go over really well...

[yes, this is sarcastic and probably in bad taste... I'm punchy this morning... I have a whole freakin' week to wait for my next dose of Kouko!]

I feel like it's totally normal and okay for people to fall in love/have crushes on anime characters! It seems to happen to everyone even if they want it to happen or not. But actually falling in love with them is just a creepy thing. They are still fictional characters which means they dont exist which means just don't fall in love with them that way.

I have small crushes and big crushes.
Small crushes are the ones when I like them and don't really imagine them much.
Big crushes are when I literally think 24/7 and often fantasise as their girlfriend.

YeH that's weird.

I think something like this usually happens after watching anime for quite some time.
But another big factor is whether the person is vulnerable to this.
Whether a person is vulnerable seems likely due to whether they feel that they have succeeded life or not.

Me, I fell victims either way, but explaining the factor of watching anime for quite some time.
With long-term watching anime, it becomes in a way mixed with reality, I start to look at the anime-girls at a different way when I first started to watch anime, I started to see them as close to a real person, I really like how they look, their personality, their voice.
Of course, this also was helped by the improving animation and voice actresses and also how the story is written.
It feels real.

A pathetic person like me really got into anime especially it feels very magical and obviously I rather live at their world.
Even calling out for attention from people at my school seems a bit of failure, they seem to ignore only because I love anime so much.
At one point, I stopped caring...

sorry for making you read my pathetic story.

There nothing wrong with thinking an anime character is attractive, since that how they're/made to appeal to the fans both in appearance and personality. Falling in love with said character will leave you heartbroken. They're fictional characters who don't know you and will NEVER know you. Your love is one sided. Reality is they're not real and you gotta except that fact before it ruins you.

I love my favorite characters but I'm not in love with them.

I fell in love with the season 1 version of :

Which is why season 2 seriously pissed me off. In season 1 her character was developed and likable, she wasn't only a love interest she was also a friend, a mentor, and a partner. Her fan service all had purpose, it wasn't accidental fanservice, it was all intentional on her part to try to win over the main character. She was pretty much my ideal girl.

In season 2, they friggin made her a stock harem member who gets jealous and is more or less just eye-candy. They completely made her into what I did not want them to make her into. It's very difficult to find an anime girl you can find hot and respect at the same time. For the most part they are simply written as sex toys or feminists, very rarely is there a good balance between those extremes.

Ah yes, and I also absolutely love Kaya from Bakuman.

Shuujin got the best girl right there. There is nothing too special about her, but she has a wonderful caring personality and is very tolerating and understanding. She is just one of those people that you really can't hate. I really wish I had Shuujin's life: get to make manga with my best friend, and have the sweetest girl in the world.

If you're 'in love' with an anime character, then it's probably best that you seek professional help.
