What 2012 could be if people weren't hysterical

So with all that Apocalyptic World Changing Event theory blowing all about nowadays, I can't help but let my thoughts wander toward that direction occasionally. With that said, I would like to pose this fiction in an attempt to ultimately discredit that theory(read: bullshit). So being the educated reader on this subject that I'm sure you are, please consider the following.

September 9, 2500
Article A-2

Archeologists recently discovered a relic from times past used to inscribe information(paper and ink). Out of some kind of unbelievable coincidence, these relics seem to contain quite accurate information detailing our celestial movement through space(it's a calendar) and show relatively accurate knowledge for their 'primitive' science. Each annual cycle is only off by 1/4 of a day! That's a deviation of only ~0.00068446%!

One piece of information is outstandingly unsettling, it would seem this relic has no data after 2550. Just a giant blaring symbol on its last page.

Blaring symbol.

Scientists have concluded that the ancient North American people in their infinite wisdom of primitive science have quite possibly calculated the end of the world! Well it wouldn't necessarily be the end, but that symbol seems to mean some sort of transformation. Our government has promptly spent 0.6 billion of our tax dollars hiring symbologists from all over the world in an attempt to decipher the true meaning behind that symbol.

As the icing on the cake, it would seem after the initial discovery of the first relic, many more identical ones were found all over the world. All without any data after the year 2550. What could this mean? Are our ancient predecessors attempting to tell us our world will no longer be the same after 2550? What could their primitive yet accurate science have told them, that our now super-freaking-advanced-science cannot? I'm afraid only time(and hysteria) will tell.

What Really Happened
Year 2012

Bob: dude, it was a bad idea to start a company printing books of calendars containing dates for the next like 50 years.
Joe: yea man, we're basically shooting ourselves in the foot because no one will be needing another calendar again in that time.
Bob: well, we've only shipped off like the first 1000 copies so far, maybe we should just scrap the project.
Joe: yea, but let's be environmentally friendly or those PETA people(nutjobs) will have our hides.
Bob: ok, let's print the recycling sign on the back page.
Joe: ok, meeting adjourned fellas.
Bob: to the strip club then?
Joe: hell yea!

Joe drank one shot too many.

So readers, back to the Mayan calendar. Prehistoric predictions of the coming apocalyse? Or two lazy Mayans working on the Date Tablet talking each other into wanting to play with something other than hammers and chisels? You decide.

Sigh...there're too many topics on this subject:

I'm not the type of person to care about what happens to the world. Frankly, I find it pathetic that people are actually taking this "2012: End of the World" BS seriously. Although I agree with your opinion, since it's a duplicate I have to lock it, but feel more than welcome to post in the threads above.

EDIT:
PMed me about his thread, I'll let the thread stay open, but only when another mod decides to close it. After that, I have no control over it.

Actually, from religious perspective. It has deep meaning in belief. I think it's not about recycling or green energy. It's about the 'rotation', similar ideology that describes equivalent exchange in economy. People should make everything in order, fairly and accurately. not misplacing it by putting them reverse or just because they feel like it. Everything in human's life from past to future, from morality to lifestyle, from punishment to reward.

In order to keep balance on the world, this rotation needs to be maintained forever. So the Mother Earth would not against us, the ones who responsible.

Well, in my religion, Islam. It somewhat related, we have been ordered to walk rotates Mecca in Saudi Arabia (If you can). To remember, from where we came from, keeping our lifestyle in moderation, respect others who respect you, cruel to those who doesn't show respect (this is just me, btw. =) ) and can't discriminate to each other when it's only by appearance and belief.

Therefore, Mayans might describe this symbol as coexistence between Mother Earth and Humanity, something that we've been forgetting since world war until now. So, Mayans might describe that humanity will disappear soon as the climate change has been changing dramatically as punishment from Mother Earth.

Never though I'd meet someone else who thought about this the same way I did. It's funny how people today will laugh at how ancient people used to believe in absurd things like the Earth being flat, but at the same time they think that those ancient people were able to accurately predict things like the end of the same world that they didn't even know the shape of. Irrationality never goes out of style...

It could be just like every other year. Some people get a bonus from work and others don't. Life goes on.
