Season's 1st frost, ice observed in wide area of Japan

TOKYO —

The first frost and ice of the season were observed Sunday in a wide area of Japan as cool and moist air seeped through the Pacific coast of the country’s eastern to western regions.

The temperature in Tokyo reached only 10 C during the day, about the usual high for early January in the capital, but will return Monday, a national holiday, to the normal range, the Japan Meteorological Agency said.
