Dude, they've got too much pride to flaunt about (excluding me and the minority of Filipinos who aren't overboard with their whole nationality). They worship a boxing champion as their hero, without even looking back on the sacrifices made by the past, true heroes of the country. "PrOuD To bE PiNoy!!!" or "mabuhay ang pilipinas!!" All those statements are getting old, and it's annoying people, even me. Call me a freakin' traitor or whatever, but you know it's the truth. They're the kind of people who like to complain, but do nothing about it, especially about their government and environment. If you're so darn irritated about the mosquitoes buzzing around your head every night, why don't you tidy up a bit? Not to make the Philippines seem inferior, but I live in America right now, and basically, there are FAR LESS flies and bugs around the place, at least not in places where people live. You don't see trash around scattered everywhere, people don't SPIT around everywhere just as much. It's an undisciplined country which needs a big whipping, that's why I think a democracy isn't fit for it, at least not now.

Okay, I've gone on a tangent rant. Not a good thing. Sorry.

Yeah probably...but chances are your never going to meet the person, so how can justice be done? Its pointless getting frustrated, they are just idiots who don't have the guts to say it to someone in person and use the internet to do it.

Exactly, at least there're a few people who understand this, but I could never understand trolling. Most people find it funny, but really it makes you wonder do these people actually have lives away from their computers.

My saying is, "If I can't punch you in the face, than there's no point in us arguing."

But you can report the person to one of the website's mods or the creator.

Don't feed the trolls, sweetie. Ignore the people that post unintelligently in this thread, they're only here to cause confrontation for their own enjoyment.

It would be nice if we all could remain as civil as possible. Hopefully we can all discuss this topic intelligently without insulting one another.

I believe many of us have experienced or seen racism in real life, but not as much as we have on the internet.
Since the creation of the World Wide Web, many people have used the internet for different reasons, but it seems the most common practice is to spread hatred.

As you know, it’s easy to type unintelligently online with little to no consequence. A more common example of this can be seen on YouTube:

Not only there, but any other social website where people frequently post comments such as Facebook, LiveJournal, Twitter, XboxLive, and MySpace (of course).

In reality, these people would probably be dealt with severely, so they hide behind computers because they have no other way to express their biased views. They’re inadequate, angry, and just plain terrible at internet rebuttals -_-.

Frankly, I find them pathetic. People need to realize that a person's actions have nothing to do with the color of their skin, but for the environment they've grown into or the way they were raised. You'd think people would be smarter than this, I guess not.

So my questions are:

How do you feel about racism over the internet? Should it be taken seriously?
Have you ever been in the middle of a racists argument?
And have you ever scrolled upon racism on Crunchyroll? (I know I have).

Also, this article also goes with the topic:
http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=c4d_1247900852

I've come across these situations too many times, and honestly I believe it needs to be dealt with. If not on other websites, than it defiantly will on CR, I'll make sure of it.

i dont care about racisms at all. NOTHING on the net should be taken seriously without proper and ethical credtibility.

Yea, but i kicked thier ass because he said i couldnt fight. I could handle the name calling and attempted murder, but his arrogance is what betrayed him...

just ignore it, it doesnt strenghten ne arguments and it cant be dealth with. Too many double standards and most people dont know the definition of racism. You cant combat racisms with discrimination, ignorance, and prejudice. peace over war

I'm sorry, but just ignoring racism isn't going to make it go away, in fact, it's only proving that they can get away with it. And that's another problem: people continue to ignore it.

But you're right, what can we possibly do to combat it? As long as there's ignorance in this world there will always be racism, right? And then most of them are just trolls trying to get a laugh, but it's still disrespectful.

Sigh...I've never been the type of person to sit back and watch shit happen. That's why I wanted to become a moderator, so I could help make the website a better place everyone...as corny as that sounds. -_-

Haha, Well here is an invitation for them trollers to swarm the thread like flies to excrement.

However, I agree with what you're saying, it's all pathetic. Some of my family members are racist, despite my continued efforts to make them less so. Ignorance is a human constant, and you'll find it everywhere, but what you'll also find is that humans, as a rule, love stereotyping people and lumping them together.

For example, if you came to NW England and saw some white kids walk past a muslim man, there'd be a high chance you'd hear them taunting him with "FUCKIN' PAKKI!" etc etc, and the same is also true of the reverse. When a population is unhappy, they want someone to blame, and so as we have seen so many times in the past (30's Germany anyone?), a racial minority is chosen as the scapegoat. So not only are you contending with the genuinely ignorant, pathetic individuals who haven't got the ability to think for themselves, but you also have the more moderate people who end up blaming a minority for the troubles around them.

Not that it's an excuse mind you. It's all just stupid, but alas, especially on the internet there's really no way to fix it. The only way to reduce racism is for parents to start raising their children to think for themselves, and raising them in a place that isn't overloaded with social prejudices already. For example, a child growing up in, let's say, 'Suburb X', which is rife with racial tension and violence, is 90% likely to become racist himself. Then you raise a child in 'Suburb Y', which is populated by moderate, sensible people, and governed by moderate, sensible people (Does such a place even exist? ), then that child will most likely become a moderate, sensible person.

The internet is just the favourite haunt of the pathetic, the insecure and the ignorant. Without trying to sound like a defeatist, all you can really do is ignore the crap out of them and they'll move onto a different site eventually.

Just take comfort in the knowledge that Mr. 'I-can't-spell-so-i'm-going-to-insult-you-in-a-stupidly-retarded-fashion' most likely lives in his parent's basement, his parents are just as bad as he is, none of them are going anywhere in life and he probably has a really, really small penis.

It helps I find

EDIT: I take my hat off to you though Gaia for at least trying to combat it when so many of us have given up, I just hope it doesn't make you a cynical old bugger before your time too

Trying to troll a thread that was created by a mod is not very smart on their part. It's like running into a police station with a gun: you're just asking to go to jail.

Lulz, but I understand. Not giving them any attention is probably the best option, but when someone is being ignorant it's hard to leave it alone.

Hahaha, I like your reasoning, and indeed that was partly why it amused me, although I confess i'm somewhat disapointed that none have taken the bait so far

I agree completely with what you say about not being able to leave it alone though. It's frustrating and infuriating in equal measure when you run into ignorant fools who either don't care that they're ignorant, or actually take pride in it (The latter especially). The problem is though as you say, what can we do about it? Fine folks like yourself who police these kinds of forums can ban them to Dante's seventh layer of internet hell, but more will rise up to take their place, it's like one of the laws of the internet, never any shortage of stupid people, as you have no doubt realised!

In my opinion, in regards to ignorance on the grander scale, the only way for people to reduce it is to live their lives well. Use your influence with those close to you and gradually show them the light, and if you end up having children, ensure that they're raised to have firm morals and pleasant temprements (As much as you can anyway). If more people did this, ignorance would gradually start to decline, but one might argue that that's just wishful thinking.

We can rant at the fools on internet forums but they won't listen, and a lot of them will find it funny ('Doing it for the lulz' or however the saying goes from the aggravating type that make use of 4chan and whatnot), and trying to reason with them using intelligent conversation is about as successful as a chocolate teapot. People like that generally have extremely low self esteem (Largely because they've got sod all to be proud of), and in mocking, insulting or bullying other people they make themselves feel better.

So alas, I fear it may be a losing battle. But, i've been wrong in the past, and instead of a losing battle it might just be an uphill struggle. We can hope can't we?

Yep, that's right!
You've encouraged me to continue in the ongoing struggle to make the CR forums a better place for all. So as long as there're users who ignore the rules, there will be moderators to enforce them, that's the way it works.
