I know it has been recently announced that One Piece has sold 170+ million tankoubon in Japan and has usurped Dragon Ball's throne as the best selling manga (in Japan) ever. However, One Piece fans shouldn't jump the gun. As far as I know the best selling manga of all time if you include global sales is still Dragon Ball. In Japan, it sold 150-160 million tankoubon. But I have read it has sold an estimated 300,000,000 tankoubon globally. So, my question is this, w are they rejoicing because they are thinking best selling manga in Japan would incorporate all sales? There's a difference between One Piece global sales (as far as I know, it has a long time if ever to best Dragon Ball's global sales) and Japanese sales? If you want to talk about all time best selling manga, you need to specify if it's a country or global sales. I think it would better to include global sales since manga is obviously popular in many countries outside of Japan.

absolutely.. if one piece was not televised by 4kids it would do better (imagine sanji instead of smoking he had this pink lollipop all the time?.. and yea we fans are rejoicing considering Japan is the origin of anime that means its really that good for a shounen jump title.

I actually think sazae-san beats both of those...well except for the global sales part.

._.; i don't even see what's the big deal....>_>;

One manga is sold more world wide,

while another is sold more in Japan...

eh, okay. >_>;;;

but like, Mangas have the biggest market in Japan, and even if Dragon ball is sold more world wide; they're probably making less profits than if the mangas were sold in Japan...

Maybe that's why the media reports One Piece as the best selling manga out there. --- for the Japanese media; at least. =/

I think it's mostly the idea that One Piece has surpassed Dragon Ball in length and chapters. Dragon Ball at 42 volumes and 519 chapters, while One Piece is at 54 volumes and, currently, 565 chapters (566, if you include the recent "0" chapter related to the Strong World film coming out). Sales and statistics aside, it's still a great manga, and I'm hoping the hectic 5 volumes a month release schedule by Viz will help pick up some steam for the series in the US. FUNimation is doing a great job of re-releasing the series and offering free streams (dub and sub) for the series from current airing episodes in Japan and the older one for those curious about the series.

I don't really mind it. As long as my weekly chapter of One piece is ready and translated, I can't complain

you sound kinda bitter...

keep in mind that dragonball has finished a long time ago, one piece is still far from finishing.
and if i remember correctly, DB made most of their sales AFTER it ended.
