I feel the same thing about Han Chae-young. It would be better if he is paired with Han Go-eun, they both look great

Press conference for A Man Called God

February 25 was production press conference day for MBC’s new weekend series A Man Called God, starring Song Il-kook, and was held at Seoul’s Sogongdong Lotte Hotel.

The entire main cast was present: Song as main character Choi Kang-ta, a billionaire and spy also going by the names “Peter Pan” and “Michael King”; Han Chae-young as a reporter and his primary love interest; Han Go-eun as a sexy femme fatale; Kim Min-jong as a sharp special agent with the National Intelligence Agency; Yoo In-young as the precious daughter of the man who killed Kang-ta’s parents; and Jo Jin-woong as a villain.

At the press conference, Song was asked if he felt any pressure playing this character. He answered, “I’ve seen comments asking, ‘Are you so tired of playing kings now that you’re playing god?’” (This refers to his past record of playing kings in historical dramas.) “Rather than feeling pressure, I’m really into this project. I’m immersed more fully than I’ve been in previous dramas. It is a little stressful to be on set and worry about every little thing, but on the other hand I’m really happy.” He added, “This is a role every man has dreamt of playing. The process may be difficult, but I feel extremely happy doing it.”

In order to get into character and get fit, Song even gave up vegetarianism — which he has maintained for the past 15 years — and opted for a diet of lean protein. He has prepared for this role for two years, and even adopted the sharp speech patterns of his character during the press conference. He acquired a motorcycle license and collected props and accessories befitting his character and compiled two scrapbooks. To come up with the new hairstyle, he consulted with the stylist he’s been with since his rookie days and by mutual consent found a new stylist.

I know we’ve commented extensively on Song’s dramatic weight loss so I won’t belabor the point here. I actually do like the hairstyle — it could look goofy but I think it’s got a retro cool about it — and the whole drama seems to be going for old-school glam, like classic noir meets the original Batman. I still really (really) prefer his old look as a person, but as a character I’ll go with it and assume that the sunken cheeks and sharp angles are better suited for the character.

The drama includes an underwater kiss scene between Song iL-gookand Han Chae-young, which has already been shot. Han explained that she found it difficult as she’s not much of a swimmer, and it was filmed at a depth of 5 meters. However, she said that she felt from the first day of filming that the drama shooting process would be easy to endure because of how much care Song showed for her during filming.

The story of A Man Called God is described as “a modern-day hero story where, through love, the hero comes to realize what justice is and reforms into a warm man, while taking on powerful people to avenge his parents’ deaths.” It premieres March 6.

Song Il-gook trains 7 hours a day in the gym

The 39-year-old will return with a new MBC drama entitled A Man Called God, portraying the protagonist named Choi Kangta. To look the part, Song spent 7 hours in the gym a day and has lost more than 10kg! Now, that’s what I call discipline.

At his fan site, Song wrote:

“I promised you (fans) that I would be muscular in our last meeting and this drama also demands that of me, so I have become a gym rat since then.”

Initially, Song struggled with training because of a shoulder injury he received while filming Kingdom of the Wind - he fell from a horse. “I couldn’t use my arm properly so the training was more like physiotherapy. My trainer also recently told me that he actually didn’t believe that I would be capable of completing the intensive training regime,” the determined star revealed.

“But I finally made good of my promise…and I feel proud of myself. My trainer said that my leg muscles especially, are near-art.”

Song not only hit the gym regularly for his new drama, he also obtained a motorcycle license for a bike-riding scene in the drama. “I’m doing my best at the moment. I don’t want to disappoint you, so I’m doing my best.”

Look at that dedication. How admirable.

A Man Called God will be aired in South Korea on March 6. I’m sure many of Song Il-gook’s fans can’t wait for it.

More stills as Man Called God winds up for weekend premiere

More stills are out of MBC's A Man Called God (actually, two different sets), which premieres this upcoming weekend. The first set of shots features lead star Song Il-kook in action playing Kang-ta, chasing down a man named James with whom he'd once worked in the past. In a Lamborghini!

James is a weapons trafficker in the Middle East, and Kang-ta approaches him for information on his enemy. The description says "approaches," but it looks more like a beatdown. This scene was shot on a road near a beach in Yokohama, Japan, and had both vehicles (the other is a limousine) racing along at high speeds.

The second set of stills showcases a kiss scene between Song and Yoo In-young, which will appear in Sunday's Episode 2. Yoo who plays Jang-mi, the daughter of Kang-ta's enemy whom he is tracking down in order to avenge his parents' deaths. Thus Kang-ta approaches her purposely to get more information on his target, rescuing her from the attentions of a violent man. She's attracted to him and initiates the kiss.

F.cuz’s Jinon to cameo on A Man Called God

F.cuz’s leader Jinon will make a surprise cameo in MBC’s upcoming drama, A Man Called God!

AMCG was derived from a cartoon, and the plotline is about the main character, Kangta (Song Il Gook), who seeks revenge on those who murdered his parents. Jinon finished his shooting on February 28th, and he will be cast as the partner of Jangmi (Yoo In Young), who is called the “Paris Hilton of Korea.”

During this episode, Jinon will get a surprise kiss by Jangmi, to which Kangta sees and becomes jealous of. Although Jinon has been in a few dramas and even in the MV for SG Wannabe’s Gashiri, this will be his first time filming a kiss scene.

Jinon commented, “I was very nervous throughout the filming with the sunbaenims, but thanks to the sunbaenims and director, I was able to finish the filming well. ”

A Man Called God will premiere this Saturday, March 6th while the episode Jinon cameos will broadcast on the second episode, March 7th.

The photos center around the main characters, portrayed by actor Song Il Gook and actress Han Chae Young, meeting for the first time. The location is in Hawaii and the two actors look hot on set, it seems Han Chae Young is a peeping tom or paparazzi as she’s taking photos in a sneaky fashion.
