Claireece Precious Jones endures unimaginable hardships in her young life. Abused by her mother, raped by her father, she grows up poor, angry, illiterate, fat, unloved and generally unnoticed. So what better way to learn about her than through her own, halting dialect. That is the device deployed in the first novel by poet and singer Sapphire. "Sometimes I wish I was not alive," Precious says. "But I don't know how to die. Ain' no plug to pull out. 'N no matter how bad I feel my heart don't stop beating and my eyes open in the morning." An intense story of adversity and the mechanisms to cope with it.

Precious is a major motion picture based on the novel Push by Sapphire, starring Gabourey 'Gabby' Sidibe, Mo'Nique, Paula Patton, Mariah Carey, and Lenny Kravitz.

I have not seen this movie and I'm terrified to because I know it'll tear at my heart strings. But I've heard it's a beautiful but heartbreaking movie.

So, tell me, will/have you seen this? If so, what was your opinion of it? If not, are you going to? Why?

It's probably the most heart-wrenching thing you could probably see, and you will cry. Basically, seeing the young women who plays Precious gives you a sort of hope, that we can all make it through our adversities. You should read the novel, but that'll make you cry as well. I was going to wait for it to come out on DVD, less money to pay.

I don't understand why movies like this aren't praised as much as Twilight, it's pretty pathetic.
