Just wondering if there are any other programmers on the site? I have self taught myself c++ up to 2d graphics with SDL and the like. Hardly impressive but its a start.

Anyone else program or code? I don't really consider HTML/CSS to count really.... but PHP/MySql works.

In fact, just for fun list the languages you know and how far you have gotten.

C++: Self Taught up to basic 2d. Got to the point were I was making AI and Life simulations in the console with text... Figured out how to make a ship move and shoot with sound, but have not coded in abit. Looking to get back
PHP: Very basics
MySQL: VERY basics
Basic: Got to start somewhere
Python: I messed with it a little
Java: Hardly
Logo: hahahaha, oh, that brings back memories.... damn turtle...

Never did Ruby/Perl. I want to look at Machine Code.

Anyways, I am by all counts a novice, but I like to learn. Anyone else?

Trying to teach myself C++, but the going is slow, as I'm also studying maths, sociology, physics, psychology and going to a part-time job. : p

Though, when I'm in trouble, I got several places to ask. : )

This isn't a personal thread. OP is encouraging discussion, and he just mentioned that he enjoys learning.

C++ has a very steep learning curve, but is very powerful. When you are done with console apps just LOOK at openGL/D3D code... when I did my brain stopped for a few seconds... It's amazing the leap from console/text to graphics >.> even SDL (2d) is very different.

Java I have not done much with, but from what I hear its like C++. Everything is OOP though. It has some neat safety nets for memory leaks but sadly does not let you mess with the memory yourself.

VBA? Visual Basic Advanced?

I've been coding web sites for about 6 years. java, javascript, asp, php, mysql, as2, as3.
I've have OOP principles down pretty well, and probably an intermediate level coder, but I'm not very smart, so it has taken me awhile.

Yeah. Spent a little under 10 years at Microsoft as a developer and later manager (on the Visual Studio products). Retired and went back to grad school, where I'm working toward my Ph.D., working on a ML-based language for writing parallel programs.

I'm experienced in C, Lisp, C#, Objective-C, Scheme, x86 assembly, and ML.
I have written code but only shipped small products in Java.
I'm horribly inexperienced with Ruby and Haskell, something I need to fix very soon :-)

I feel ignorant.. Scheme and Haskell are unfamiliar names to me.

“Knock, knock.”
“Who’s there?”
very long pause….
“Java.”

and
