Tekken, Namco's arcade game turned popular video game series for PlayStation 1-3, Xbox 360, and Gameboy Advance, will be yet another best-selling video game made into an action/science fiction film. The game's predecessors have met with mixed box office success and almost universally horrible reviews. Some games have made fairly decent movies, with Resident Evil and Hitman topping the list but by no means excellent films.

The large majority of the video-games-turned-movies — Super Mario Bros., Double Dragon, two Street Fighter movies, two Mortal Kombat movies, Wing Commander, two Final Fantasy films (both animated), House of the Dead (and its made-for-TV sequel), Alone in the Dark, two Tomb Raider flicks, Doom, Dead or Alive, two awful, awful BloodRayne movies, Silent Hill, the Resident Evil sequels, and Max Payne, to name a few — are just plain terrible. The acting is usually sub-par, the plots are never interesting, and the overall product is generally genuinely sloppy.

As for Tekken, however, the verdict is still out. Will it be a favorite or a flop?

Movie story line
The year is 2039. World Wars have destroyed much of civilization as we know it. The remaining territories are no longer run by governments, but by corporations, the mightiest of which is Tekken.

In order to keep the masses down, Tekken sponsors the Iron Fist Tournament in which fighters compete to the death for ultimate glory and receive a lifetime of stardom and wealth.

Here we have two posters

I'm not expecting too much out of it.

Flop.

The in-game movies for each character (seen in Tekken5) are way better, and hotter, thats all the entertainment I needed really, why should I get disappointed when someone tried to play hottie Hworang and fails badly? Or any other character for that matter, and er...where is Asuka? I rest my case.

Its a fine line between box office smash and laughed at dud!

The movie needs to be balanced so that even the every-man non videogamer can enjoy it.

Make it too "Videogamey" and average joe will scratch his head and give up!

Make it too different from the videogame plot and you'll hear the angry crys of the Fanboys!

But then again it all boils down to the Studio Executives. They decide how to fund the movie and make changes according to the budget and/whim of the company.

Also another point is if its produced by an Eastern Movie Studio or an Western movie studio. There are whole different mindsets and policies when it comes to where the movie is being made!

Well heres to hoping we dont get another Dragonball....

I bet it is going to flop, tekken just seems like a hard movie to put to life. unlike hitman and resident evil movies which were good because who doesnt like gunfights and zombies?
I honestly want to see one of the actors try hworangs kick combo.. or any of the characters special attacks.

It looks like a very low budget movie. Their costume in the poster seems too old fashioned. I haven't seen the movie yet
But I'm guessing it's a horrible fail

is this movie out?
anyways, compared to the other fighting games, tekken has the better storyline. in-family conflicts where all the family members are martial arts experts in their own field. mixed in some kind of demon entities that would kill all human kind. and a certain character that is both human and demon. its story and characters isn't as straight forward as the other fighting games.

they have alot of stuff they could use to make this a success. there are things that they shouldn't do: change the character's background story or make the characters do completely out of character stuff: example would be to have hwoarang and jin kazama be best friends when they really aren't. or hwoarang not knowing how to do taekwondo.

if they have Jacky Chan play as Lei Wulong, that in itself would be awesome already
