My pictures used to not be so low quality here on cr... but why are my pictures all suddenly so ugly looking! like before they would have the same quality as when i first got it... but now when the moment i upload it here... the pictures look like they got blurry, and messsy... and icky! Why are my pictures like this and is there a way to fix it??

What pictures? In the albums, or as your avatar? I'm not sure about the albums, but avatar pics get resized and as a logical conclusion do lose quality, and I doubt that it's any different for photo albums.

But of course, if anyone has better a response to this, or thinks that I'm wrong, and legitimately corrects me, then I DO stand corrected.

Shroom is pretty much on the right track.

The site compresses uploaded content, and the final quality of the image may depend on the original resolution (in dpi) of the uploaded image. The easiest answer as to why certain images look uglier compared to others after conversion may be due to either a very low image dpi being converted to a higher one, or vice versa. For most people, it's usually a high DPI being converted to a lower one (e.g. 300dpi downgraded to 72dpi).

The safest way to maintain picture quality while minimizing distortion (on most uploading sites, even besides CR) would be to manually convert the dpi to a lower one (usually 120 would suffice) prior to uploading. I can't guarantee, however, that this would work in CR's case, but more likely than not, this should help since I can't think of any other reason as to why uploaded picture quality should deteriorate so badly. If you could show me an example, I may be able to address your problem more adequately.

EDIT: oh yeah... another possible (but unlikely) reason is due to an error in data transmission, usually due to an unstable internet connection. You could try re-uploading the image, and see if it helps - but if all your uploads are looking the same, then I'd think it's a DPI conversion issue.
