im half japanese and was fine with milk up until age 8 then my body started rejecting it completely. i can deal with processed cheese products and so on fine unless an abundance is ingested. Some of my family who are full and half jap are partially intolerant but i got the worst of it.

If i need to eat milk or ice cream and so on, i take Lactaid tablets which basically help the body break down and digest lactose, and in most cases it eliminates the bloating, cramps, and bowel movements. there are odd time when they only work 75% and one symptom may be present after a while but becomes much more bearable than just eating dairy products without the pills.

as for the stereotype its common because i see many people drinking soy milk and so on, but there are some people that have minor cases of intolerance and just deal with the discomfort.

Well that's different to me. I know quite a few lactose intolerant people and they're all white, even my own brother. Quite a few of my asian friends love milk. While I'm white and I don't drink much of it at all. Hah

Lactose intolerance comes with age. When you are an infant, your body has the ability to digest lactose. To maintain this ability, a person has to keep drinking milk most of their life. Once you stop for a few months, the lactose digestive enzyme that your body has will decrease until there isn't any left in your body. Thus, when you get older, you tend to drink less milk, more soda, coffee, tea, juice, therefore there's no need for your body to maintain the lactose enzyme. You can replenish this enzyme, by taking "lactaid" an over the counter supplement that will allow you to digest milk. If you do this for a few months, your body will regain the enzyme levels and you can stop taking the supplement and be able to digest milk.

Geez, I thought Asians were smarter than this and would know this.

I don't think I am lactose intolerance, but I like soy milk better than cow milk.

I've always been curious about possible hereditary links to lactose intolerance- tho I've never researched it, -but I've also wondered if there is a connection to how soon an infant is introduced to cows milk as a substitute for mother's breast milk & the development of this condition, kind of like the problems we know today w/ giving babies honey or peanut products too soon can lead to illness or allergic reactions.
Has anybody out there heard of, or read any research on this?!?
My ancestry is firmly based in Western Europe, but w/ at least a dozen or more generations born in the US, & I've been lactose intolerant since early grade school- at least as far as I know.

Lol I can't even drink it, unless it's chocolate or stawberry milk.

I added you, hope that's okay. You're the first I've talked to who actually knows about the show. =3 Lol I'm obsessed too.

in the vietnam war, the tunnel rats ( the guys who had to go into the tunnels to find the enemy) could not drink milk for about 2 weeks before a misson because the enemy could smell it. its kind of how most people can smell kimchi for a long wasy off

i can drink milk but not alot of it or else i'll be running to the bathroom.
people think i'm weird that i eat cereal with soymilk, anyways
soymilk is way healthier than reg. milk. Lower cholestrol,
more protein, no fat.
