Slam Dunk ofcourse, compare the graphics and scene from Slam Dunk to Dear Boys. Dear Boys aint that really good compared to the 1999 Slam Dunk.
Also the story line from Slam Dunk is much better especially the manga

Dear boys!!! aikawa rox~~
i had watch 2 series, although i m quite in love wif rukawa, bt i like aikawa best. Coz he is like focus more on team spirit, not on juz himself. and the rest of the team all come togather to believe in him and display the best of their coordination.

Ugh... I know this is a vs thread, but this one isn't actually bad.
Usually vs. threads are this anime character fighting that anime character. This one is a comparison between similar anime.

I actually like DearBoys because it's not like every other sports anime out there. One guy is introduced to this sport and he loves it so he trains hard and gets really good. DearBoys is more about the team coming together. They improve on how they work as a team rather than individual abilities.

Also, Aikawa is just a better star then Rukawa. Rukawa is arrogant and cold which is really annoying to viewers who play basketball. I say this because his ego is completely inflated although he really isn't that good. He wants to go to America? If he went to America, he probably wouldn't even make the team. Unless he goes to some school in Albequerque. Aikawa does not have an inflated ego and he can shoot. He's a less irritable character.
Ehhh I'm gonna have to disagree. Slam Dunk is the better one.

But really I don't see how you can say Rukawa isn't good. You have to remember the anime was made during a time when that was good. Not to mention this is high school basketball in a Japan and they're not exactly know for basketball players. Although Rukawa wasn't my favorite character he could shoot, dunk, play defense, assist, and he kept a level head.

I said he wasn't as good as he thought he was. His inflated ego annoyed me. He wanted to take on America with no concept of how good he was.

Also, I said before that the reason DeatBoys is better is because it steps away from being to much like every other sports anime. They train together to become a better team more often then training individual abilities. You see them construct plays and many players are role players rather then Slam Dunk which fells more like an All Star Team.

I think that both of them are good...but slam dunk is better my opinion because its funny and serious at the same time, as well as it connects to highschool life. Although, Rukawa is egostistical and cold, his overall skills as a basketball player is valuable and Sakuragi (has girl troubles due to his ganster like appearance but a kind person at heart) seems to balance everything in Shohoku with his funny actions and ambitions as well as his athletic ability that makes him a great rebounder and his fast improvement as a player in the manga. There are players such as Akagi, the elite centre captain who dreams of winning the championship and also a hard worker, Miyagi, a fast and skilled point guard who has problems in the past but remained a good person in the story, and Mitsui, although he was a former gangster, he used to be a star and could of been a good player in Shohoku for 4 years but injuries ruined that and became a gangster to feel good- despite all that he redeemed himself by returning to the team and being a valuable palyer down the stretch with his shooting. Dearboys is okay and has a good characters and storyline but Slam dunk deals with some real life teenager issues... but I still watch it (dearboys) though. The manga version slam dunk is sick too.
