Parents trying to "fit in"
Posted 12/20/09
Have you ever had an experience where your parents took a liking to youth culture? By that I mean, liking the same things you & your friends like, etc. My mom was obsessed with Inuyasha at one point and she plays Runescape A LOT. Sometimes she even knows of new songs before I do...
It's really weird though because as I've begun to take in interest in older movies, music, etc. she's been trying to fit in and be.."cool" or something.
So, do any of you have parents like that? Or know of an older person (teacher, relative) who is like that? Do you think it's weird or not weird?

**Also, I'm pretty sure this thread isn't a duplicate. I searched for it - but perhaps not as thoroughly as possible. Lock it if it is, though...

Maybe it's just a matter of preference. Don't make judgement too early

my teacher in senior high school. i caught her watching naruto in the staffroom. i felt weird at first but now i'm working as part time tuition teacher and i'm obsessed with manga+anime since i was 12 so when i think of my students feeling weirded by my obsession i kinda feel uncomfortable. i mean, i've been in this otaku world longer than they have so they are in no position to judge..

My dad is!
He acts even more immature than me! Actually, I'm even scolding him when we go to malls as he acts like a 10 year old most of the time -_-.

If she likes it and makes her happy, she should not stop doing it. She's not doing anything wrong. The thing is she probably did not have the chance to get expose on these things earlier in her life.
Some people might say, "damn, these kids are lucky. I wish I had experienced this when I was young."

She's not the worst parent ever. She's something alright.
She could have done something worser [like beat or torture you to death]. She's still your parent and the parent that looks over you [in some way].

You guys think your parents are worse. Never again will I give my dad to listen to Snoop Dog - who let the dogs out.. Right now... he will keep repeating this line " holy holy dog dog" , Think he misinterpret "who let the dogs out" to holy =.= . *sigh*. But I still love him :3.

I never said she was doing anything wrong and she should stop doing it. It's just very unusual...like, I don't know WHAT to think of it...once she was dissing Miley Cyrus the way my friends/other girls my age do. Like, "Ohmygod what a whore! Demi Lovato is so much better than her!" I just find it awkward, not wrong LOL

Only a few years actually...first anime, then video games...
And actually I think it is FREAKING AWESOME that she plays video games. But then some people don't approve and say, "Your mom is playing Grand Theft Auto IV? Isn't that the game where you pick up hookers, kill people and steal cars?" And then they'll just shake their head unapprovingly...
