i don't think you'll have a problem. there are alot of Indian business people in Japan. you may have a little trouble because you're a gaijin and don't speak the language well but thats it. Japanese people are very friendly. don't be afraid to go.

I get where your coming from because I'm Hindu aswell but my cousin went to Japan for a business trip and he didn't experiance any racism or any general sterotyping, however in the airport they stopped him and took him for an interview because they though he was muslim terroist. Although I do think that some Japanese people are discriminative and perjudice to the other race, so they may keep to themselves and try to avoid contact.

A 'muslim terrorist'. Please dude, don't sound like a friggin idiot. Not all terrorists are Muslims, and even if they said they were, they're not. You can't be Muslim and go around and kill innocent lives. It doesn't work that way.

Now there's a stereotype for you that's all too familiar for Arab Muslims *sigh*

Well I know, not all muslim are terroists and besides it was the secruity who are sterotyping, discrimnating and being perjudice on muslim nowadays.

Here's some stats for you dickhead:
At a level of 1.2 billion, they represent about 22% of the world's population. They are the second largest religion in the world. Only Christianity is larger, with 33% of the world's inhabitants.

Islam is growing about 2.9% per year. This is faster than the total world population which increases about 2.3% annually. It is thus attracting a progressively larger percentage of the world's population.

If 95% were terrorists, we'd all be effed up right now.
Some more friendly advice: THINK FOR YOURSELF.

No, it's not really racism since in Japan, most of the people are Japanese so it's kind of weird to see another race? But they are Japanese people and usually the people there are polite to any kind of culture since they don't believe in the "we are individuals" thing. Unlike America, people are used to seeing so many cultures but there are still some racism going on. I don't know, bleh.

Gosh, I've never known it was that large of a problem. I never even knew there were racism in Japan. Mostly Japanese there, so it would be hard to have interactions with Indian. I guess it wouldn't be weird to alienate another ethnic group, but I don't think Japan would really look at you and see you as a terrorist. Then again, I didn't see one Indian guy in Japan. I saw A LOT in China's airport though. They were nice to me. lol

im not saying that there is racism in Japan well its probs not as bad as were i am now (England) so im kinda relived to hear that XD but im kinda worried that ill be like the only indian about =(

There is a lot of racism in Japan, the Japanese are very xenophobic and tend to look upon foreigners with distrust and suspicion. If the racism in England is bad, then expect the racism in Japan to be a lot worse.

Yea I agree with that. I lived in Japan and I've seen that. The thing about Japan is, for over 2000 years it has just been Japanese. If you want to talk about racism, its not whether you are black, indian, european, or anything else. The racism lies in the pure fact that you are a foreigner and not Japanese. Although you can definitely see the change among the younger generation so who knows how it might be later down the road

Ok there are alot of threads about blacks and racism but im woundering if racism towards Indians are as high in Japan. Im indian myself and these past few years with issues of terrorism rising, some STUPID people have started to look at me like im going to bomb them or somthing stupid like that. (im not even muslim (extremist) im hindu) As i am learning japanese and maybe in a few years time i might like to live over there for about a year or so to get a feel for different cultures. i was wondering how much racism is actually over in Japan about indians and what the general stereotype for indians are over there.

Don't worry. There are a lot of Indian people over there. Mainly in Tokyo and places like that do you find A WHOLE LOT of foreigners. Just as I said in my previous post, racism in Japan is among foreigners in general. It doesnt matter if you are indian, black, white, or anything else. But I never knew it to be a huge problem as long as I have been there. I've definitely seen it and been a victim of it but not in the same way as in America.

If you're a foreigner who's able to work , live and stay in Japan,I'll say that you are something.......The Japanese government won't let you stay in their country that easily unless you are something(as in a person who's good at their job etc etc) in their country.I don't think that they'll be racist towards you, they might be envious of you or even push themselves to work harder.Well that's my theory anyway.

yeah i think you may be right on some parts. from this thread ive got the impression that in work place people will begin to go against the idea of an outsider (just dont really like the word foreigner) working along with them but over a certain amount of time itll work out fine and as for outside people will act odly which is fair enough because for a mostly japanese populated country its not commen, so they will act out with weird looks and such but over a longer amount of time itll probs fade away (hopefully) well thats what i think anyways
