I think it's the actual definition of the word that's taboo (but that's another argument altogether.) People don't usually associate the word with the meaning so it isn't a big deal.

It's usually said when someone's stressed or are so angry and frustrated they don't know how exactly to express themselves at the time. That's when that word usually comes into effect with me.

Though some people I know use it almost in every sentence and it picks at me but I'm too polite to tell them that or feel it would be an invasion of their personality traits. I'm sure if I ever tell those people I know they would retort me with WTF is wrong with saying fuck.

I think it adds edge to a sentence when you're being comedic.

Take The Hangover for example:

"Why can't we remember what happened last night?"

"Would you relax? Because we obviously had a great fucking time."

Take the fucking out of that and its just bland. Just saying.

Really? Everyone I know gets a big dick every time I use it, even though I live in a place where cursing isn't generally seen as a bad thing. I've never seen it as a special thing because I've grown up watching adult cartoons, and because I've never seen the logic behind the taboo. I mean, it's a word, who fucking cares?

It's definitely an abused word. And other than being "offensive" to anyone who works as a staff member for a school system I doubt anyone really cares anymore. It's kind of sad if you ask me.
