I've been wondering about this for quite some time. I guess the answer is obvious to some, but I'd like your opinions.

In my opinion, yes. Because we have traditions and other things. But I think it also depends on where you lived. But somehow I think ethnicity still does affect a person. I've heard many say that asian parents are quite strict and such, but it also depends where you lived because there are certain rules in society which people follow.

Like in America if parents hit their children it's child abuse. And if you put alarms and such in your house, and someone broke in and got hurt, it's your fault and you can go to jail. But in other countries it's different. So, my point is that.

EDIT: Please also answer with your opinion, why you agree or your experiences. Let's refrain from answering in short comments. Please and thank you.

uh yes!! the way your parents raise you!! being polite to your elders, it also depends on what you see on others the clothes they wear, because when i first came here in the US girls were like showin their belly buttoms and they were like showing alot of legs and my mom was like eeeww!! lol so yeah

interesting topic

culture and how you were raised might play a small role, but some people are born hyper or born shy no matter where or how they were raised lol...

I think Asians are more disciplined.
Most Asian parents are much more strict than any other ones.... you can even find some countries in Asia where children need to add honorifics when talking to elders.

That won't happen. Just look at the posts above me.

I will say the answer is no. Culture definitely affects personality, and how you raise children. Ethnicity has nothing to do with it. The Asian collectivist psyche is completely different than the western individualist psyche, but an Asian person that is raised in America will become just as individualistic as any other western person. We have many examples on that.

I suppose so.Asia's very different from Europe or America.Asians tend to be conservative unlike the rest of the world imo.Especially asian parents haha.Over here children are expected to greet their elders and follow certain traditions, and that's the way society is like here.I guess the ethnicity's culture and upbringing does affect the personality

No, it doesn't. Why would it? Just look at it like this:

You don't see all Asian's having the same personality

Everyone is brought up in different ways, you could have been physically abused by your parents, had an f'ed up childhood, or just had a spoilt life, where you receive everything you desire.

The group of friends/colleagues you hang around.

Of course, yes, it does affect your personality. Growing up, religion, culture/tradition and social climate can f*ck up a person.

Your ethnicity determines your culture and how you we're raised, so I would say yes. Then again, in America, you can be Asian and be raised in America with American culture, so I change my mind, no, it's the culture, not necessarily your ethnicity.

Maybe, I don't really know how to explain this.
I was born in America, and my parents were born in China, and they're just VERY strict -_-

Only up to the point where you realize you're completely capable of individual thought. A man chooses, a slave obeys.
