Any anime you refuse to watch in Japanese?
Posted 1/6/10
If you are going to post DUPLICATE, the thread you compare this to better be a clone.

I know this goes against the natural order for most of you, but is there any anime that you always stuck with the dub for any reason at all? This includes anime you originally watched in Japanese, the switched to the dub without looking back.

The ones I can think of are:

Hellsing (its actually keeping me from watching Hellsing Ultimate episodes 5, 6, & 7),
Fullmetal Alchemist
Fruits Basket
Dragonball (Z, GT)
Yu Yu Hakusho

Only Yu-gi-oh. I don't like dubs because I hate it when their trying to say a word and try to make it sarcastic or some sort for example (Kawaii!!(japan) Hirana Aya and then (cute!!!) some english person? does it not sound weird?

I've had a particular dislike for dubs not because of the poor quality, but because of the discrepancies in translation... lots of things are lost in translation, sadly...

But if I were to pick, quite a number of the Ghbili studio work dubs are very well done. Of one would be Spirited Away. I could live with that dub.

Hellsing - Dubs that uses real British accent really complement the show.

Emma: A Victorian Romance - Same as Hellsing.

Yu-Gi-Oh! - Regardless on what Yu-gi-oh timeline we are talking about, English dubs still adds the dramatic flare to the series.

Though 23, I admit to preferring to watch Bakugan dubbed. Some recent shows like Moribito and Monster I prefer to watch dubbed because that's how I am more familiar with them. Some series I might watch only in Japanese and others in English.

Well, its not that I refused but I prefer watching it it in dubs. D.Gray-man is one but not for their crap dubs but because of nationality. The main character is British and I found it weird for him speaking Japanese. Yeah, hate me y'all for saying it but its my opinion.

I have NEVER seen an anime that was better dubbed. As has been mentioned, too much is lost in translation. Plus the original Japanese voice actors are almost always significantly better than any other dub actors.

I only watch Hellsing dubbed. They have relevant accents! It's wonderful! I also watch Cowboy Bebop dubbed because I think the voice actors actually do a better job conveying the characters personalities than the Japanese cast.
