Now, as we can all see, it clearly says '(Non-English OK!)' beside 'International/Culture', yet the thread I have created in the 'Japan' subforum has been closed on grounds that it was not in English. I would identify this as an error.

The thread may be viewed [url=http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-597499//]here.

DerfelCadarn, you're right about that one. Nicely pointed out! ;P

Here is the proper link to the thread, http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-597499/

I'll bring up the issue, but it has something to do with the fact that that section of the forums was created during the time of which the rule of "english-only" in the forums was being strictly implemented. The only reason why we want people to stick to English is because its difficult for moderators to moderate something they don't understand.

However, I read your forum and it's practically benign. If it means anything, I'm studying Japanese, myself, and I find it a shame to close such a thread... (but at the same time, I fear people posting in romaji, which will totally throw me off due to all the discrepancies and differences in the different Hepburn systems, out there).

See that is quite misguiding. On the one hand there is a 'sign' indicative of a liberty and on the other a policy working contrary to it. On the face of it, it appears as though you have authorised people to use languages other than English in the subforums in question, so my thread must have been deleted wrongously. :D

That is easily resolved by compelling people to use straight kana spelling, it being the most sensible system considering how it accords closely with actual kana spelling.

Yeah, technically the thread shouldn't be locked, but there's that issue of moderating things we can't understand. It's more of an agreement of the mods versus something the admin decided to put up on their own. Again, I'll have to follow you up on this.

The wâpuro equivalent? Well, I agree that it's more straightforward, but since the spacing is totally arbitrary, I still find it quite an eyesore.

Thank you.

Well, eyesore or not, you will have to admit that romaji, to many students of Japanese, is an essential step. Yes, it isn't all that difficult to learn kana, yes, it doesn't take too long to learn, which becomes obvious once you've learnt it, but if you're presented with a bunch of syllables when you've just started out and they're nothing similar to the latin alphabet you're used to, learning them might seem a daunting task, much more difficult than it actually is. Anyhow, I think practical considerations should prevail over aesthetic ones.

Plenty of time has passed and there has been no action taken to remedy the wrong. I have not been provided with an explanation or really anything from anyone who has the authority to make a decision on the matter.

Also, let me add, I have made a payment (and hence entered into a contract) to Crunchyroll.com on the basis that I will be entitled to use the facilities provided in a fashion consistent with what is indicated as being permitted. I believe this is a breach of contract, however minor. Now, considering this, it is the least that it be remedied in the way suggested above. Agreement among the moderators or not, I have not been allowed to act in a way which is expressly permitted.

I don't think resolving the issue requires more than two or three days and I'm certainly convinced that it does not require over ten.

We'll have the part that says "(Non-English OK!), removed since there isn't big enough of a foreign language audience to warrant having non-English sections. If you would like to speak in a different language, you'll have to do so in a user created group.
