I thought it might be a good idea to start a discussion thread for the episode, since you can only say so much in the limited comment box.

My thoughts on the second episode:

Heh, somehow I kept getting a Swiss vibe for the location. Being located between Italy, Germany and France does give it a genericly Euro sort of flavor. Now how many japanes schools there might be in the Alps? I have no idea and don't care. The show is after all made for the domestic TV market in Japan first and foremost; so of course, they will use elements of japanese schools.

@BaraTwoswords
We're talking about some alternative history/distant future here, one could expect stuff like that to really happen...
@einhorn303
french numbers go like this

un
deux
trois
quatre
cinq
six
sept
huit
neuf
dix
onze
douze
treize
quatorze
seize
dix-sept
dix-neuf
vingt
vingt et un
...
thus, seize is 16

about zero: it might mean the "capitol", since zero kind of stands out

I googled "japanese school switzerland" and found this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kumon_Leysin_Academy_of_Switzerland. Apparently the province it's in, Leysin, really is in the alps. So at least one...how odd.

I don't find it too odd really, because my high school also had a Japanese library and had weekend classes for Japanese-American families. I don't know which is more multicultural, the US or Europe, but they're both definitely up there.

On the line of all the nuclear speculation, maybe it has something to do with "ground zero?"

well the most popular theory avout naming towns as numbers today seems to be something like "the war was going for such a long time that even the original town's names were forgotten"

actually it seems rather weird to me how they pay so much attention to an old legend, yet they don't know their fort used to be a school
do they care about past or not? o_O im confus

about location: go see the wiki, it has maps conparsion and town photo comparsion and stuff )

At 8.17 the subtitles show "Helvetia" as the name of their country.
Helvetia is of course Switzerland.

The sound that you hear is my jaw hitting the floor.

Learning that Helvetia is Switzerland is the key that makes everything
in this show fall into place.

I wish I hadn't waited until after Episode 7 to explore the Forums.
Still, better late than never...

I too wish I hadn't waited until ep 7, but the first few minutes of that ep left me disturbed (from the violence that caught me off guard after the slice of life vibe of the past few eps) and just plain...well....WOWed!

I'm still hoping this show reveals itself to be in an alternate reality and we don't find out later on that this is actually a far off future setting (like Scrapped Princess or Utawarerumono). But in any case now every time I see the show there will be at least some small part of me that can't help thinking of Switzerland.

On a totally unrelated note: I still feel kind of new to Crunchyroll and was wondering how do I go about adding buddies for talking about stuff like this. I feel kind of funny just going onto random peeps profiles and asking to be buddies. Can anyone tell me what's the proper etiquette (or "Netiquette") for this?
