'Avatar' Causes Depression
Posted 1/13/10 , edited 1/13/10
I keep getting mixed reviews on this movie. =_= "It's great," "It's alright," and now this. I don't think I'm gonna see it. It's not my type of movie, anyway.

I really enjoyed Avatar, and I think the world of Pandora is pretty cool, but honestly some people just take it to far. After reading this thread, I decided to go look at a couple Avatar fansites just to see what to what extent these people were going to "be in Pandora"...

I watched Avatar and I now have SEVERE adrenal fatigue and a low thyroid... I can't hardly walk because I am extremely exhausted all of the time.

This movie made me suicidal... I am plotting my very own death, with no chance of survival, I'm giving away a bunch of stuff, burned all my writings... and that's just the tip of the iceberg. I have set a "date" to commit suicide. Hanging, gassing or drowning in my bath.

I want to live in Pandora and it seems impossible. My life seems completely deprived of any future purpose. Moral values are gone from our society!!! I feel so ashamed of being American! I can no longer bear this kind of life.

There is a land however where everything is pure: its name is Land of Death.
I am still alive or long since dead? My unnatural death will cause a lot of grief but you'll forget about me and go on with your life. And besides, unnatural death seems to me hereditary, since too many of my relatives have chosen this path.

I bid you all farewell and for the last time, greeting from an unhappy human.

My Dear Neytiri,

It will be hard for me to part from you. I have loved you so much. Please forgive me and think of me with compassion. I do not want to be given autopsy, only if my insurance requires it. A happy life with you, dearest Neyriti, is also unthinkable because you live in a parallel universe to ours.

Je t'aime, adieu...

Seleene Mark

I've had the exact same feeling after I first saw Avatar- the sick realization that Pandora isn't real- and trying anything to just escape this reality and live there instead, even trying to put myself into a coma so my dream world would be Pandora.

I must say this thread is quite humorous: http://naviblue.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=142

People becoming sad and depessed over a movie? I have seen it all. Avatar is one of my favorite movies and it did not make me sad because the movie itself was not completely sad (the ending was great and not depressing). I truly do not understand how people can get that serious over a movie. Suicidal thoughts? There are some FUBAR people out there.

Isn't this a little shameful? Basically flaming the asses of people who "are depressed" over the movie Avatar? First of all, if this movie had those kinds of effects on people, then every single movie would cause people to commit suicide yearly. As AHTL stated, this movie had a fairly stereotypical story; hardly any originality at all. The difference between this movie and any other story can then only be the quality of the graphics. Because of this, we can conclude that there was nothing significantly moving about this movie.

In addition, many people here are commenting on the actions of people who have yet to say anything in this forum topic, and yet are including insults and have derogatory intonations in their posts. Many do not seem to understand that the significance of this article is questionable; user posts on a forum could be several accounts by one person, or the power of group mentality/suggestion. To attack someone suffering from depression is contrary to the surface message that many of the posters here seem to have. If this was the intention of those in question in the first place, then simply state your opinion blatantly.

The people who contemplate suicide are pathetic jokes. If they want the world of Pandora so much, then they should just watch the movie for the rest of their lives. At least one person (me) won't give a jacksquat about what happens to them. I'm busy taking care of my own rear end and I've no time to be dreaming of a fictional world.

*lightbulb flickers on above head*

Well, just letting everyone here know I'm not ever coming back on cr, cause I'm thinking of killing myself...I've always wanted to live in the world of anime as a 2d character, and living in this world is too depressing....

Anyhow, that is just FAIL FAIL FAIL!! It's just a movie Some people these days must live extremely sheltered lives...

the only thing that depresses me about the movie is that it's situation is the same as the one happing over here in Guam.
