Very well put, Zol_Grimm.
Contests could still be done via Twitter. If you want an accurate "first X" make the conditions a reply, or DM (Direct message). Sega does DM contests every Friday and every now and then someone from Microsoft's 360 division do reply / DM contests. For those who are speaking out of term without knowing the back story to the situation, there were no sore losers and this was not the fault of any participant of the contest. It was a simple mishap by CR (they *are* human too :P) and they've acknowledged it and have messaged the individuals to resolve the situation. |

To quote omket:
That's too bad that this issue has popped up, more so that no ones made an official response yet. I'll try to clear up some misconception about re-tweeting. There are two types of RT's, the first version of retweeting was to make an actual tweet with "RT" the user and then their tweet. Due to the popularity of RT's, a few months ago Twitter officially launched an RT feature that allows you to click a "retweet" link without having to physically type out the message, thus making it easier to RT. @wonderlandvirus your app does not show it because it doesn't seem to support the feature yet. I use Tweetie and the original version of the app did not support the new RT feature, however, Tweetie 2 does. If you look at eimii's twitter page you can see that she used the RT feature and didn't tweet "RT" http://twitter.com/eimiiho Unfortunately this seems to be the mistake of the CR team who picked the winners for not properly understanding the features of Twitter and solely relying on people who tweeted RT, most likely because they used the search to find RT's or they have an out dated app. To demonstrate see: http://twitter.com/#search?q=nintendo%20admits and then check out my page http://twitter.com/tekmosis the search does not include the RT done by the feature. Hopefully the staff take note of my post to help prevent any future contest mishaps that involve Tweeting. basically read after http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-598925/utada-hikaru-concert-ticket-winners/?pg=9#29535964 |

The dispute, if you bothered to read the winners post, seems to be due to a problem with the winner selection process. As i understand it, it seems that cruncyroll used twitter and something didnt work out as planned and one or 2 individuals won where they may not have supposed to and one or 2 individuals lost when they perhaps should have won. Yes, i agree disputing it may seem a tad over the top but if you found out you entered a contest and lost, although by the rules you should have won, you'd be rather disappointed too. So give them a break its bad enough to lose, its worse to find out the contest may have botched and given the prize to someone else when it should have been you. In the end the contest's committee has the final say, but everyone makes mistakes, best to point out mistakes if you think there's been one cause who knows you might be right XD. To be honest i feel cruchyroll made this post rather haphazardly, as they have largely blamed the users here, when to be honest it seems more like a mess up on their part or twitters either way, be careful who you point fingers at, especially if it's unnescessary or at your supporters XD. Lastly i would like to thank crunchyroll for all the contests they hold as i have enjoyed participating in some and enjoyed hearing of others and how you really made people's day/week/month etc exceptional with some of your truly brilliant prizes. Keep on rockin' and crunchy rollin' people XD You pretty much said what I wanted to say. I feel real sorry for the people involved. I would have been psyched if I found out I won a ticket and then CRUSHED after finding my name to be not up there. A big slap in the face. Hope things work out to those involved. :/ I believe there was mention of the affected parties getting consolidated but from what i gathered the prize was really rare and tough to get a hold of so god knows how they are gonna pay them back for messing it up. Is the CR community really this cruel? I'm not sure why I've been targeted for these transgressions and why michana decided to blow this out on the front page. Myself and the other member who have concrete evidence with backing from the other participants show us as the winners. There is no discrepancy about this. The problem is the method CR used to choose the winners did not include all the participants in which two were actual winners.
Does anyone know how hardcore it got during the first part of the contest? After a tweet, it was literally 1-3 seconds to retweet before someone got it. I lost the first 3 so I was determined to win the 4th one. There was a huge break during the 24hr period of this contest when it resumed the next day at which the 4th part of the contest resumed. I stayed up all night monitoring it and clicking refresh. I never thought I would be going so far into this contest but after spending half of the day trying to win and failing, I went ahead and gone full-fledged. I have two jobs, bills to pay and go to school full-time. My birthday is on the 18th and the concert is on the 19th. I thought this would be a great present for myself especially since I'm a huge fan of Utada's. After finding out that I placed the first retweet on the 4th part of the contest, I celebrated (prematurely) and called my bestfriend that all the effort I put in wasn't in vain. I took a nap and woke up to see that I basically got screwed along with another person. We both followed all the rules and guidelines, there was no attempted foul-play. People questioned my ethics earlier and now I have uncalled for flames. The saddest thing is there is concrete evidence that can be retraced by anyone... two people who won didn't get any prize or compensation, no even an apology. We have merely asked questions and answered questions from anyone on the forum while waiting for any official response. I did not complain but wanted to seek a resolution and to not blow this out of proportion. I offered a possible fix for this problem and messaged the admins involved about it. The best they could do is offer to put our names on the waitlist with no guarantees. I'm not even sure if I can bring a friend. But what hurts the most is how it seems CR is placing the blame on the participants who won... Is that even ethical? I'm a huge fan and supporter of CR. I spend lots of time watching anime here just like everyone else. I just ask for justice and have tried to be as professional and mature about this whole situation as possible. How would you feel if this happened to you? That you wasted 2 days of emotional distress, anxiety , anguish and still no apology. Could you imagine if a hardcore Utada fan freak were in my shoes and this happened to them? Things could be much worst than they are now. I do appreciate those who have read the previous threads about what has gone on and posted on my behalf. Thank you, it means a lot. However, I am still deeply deeply saddened. |

Yes it seems they plan to compensate them otherwise but haven't mentioned how and as i said the prize was rare and hard to obtain so it would be hard to compenstae accordingly |

Don't worry, there's people who read your little 'argument' and who believe in you.
And wow I admire you for your efforts. I don't think I could've done that even if CR was offering L'Arc-en-Ciel tickets. |

Kippu, one of the resolutions I offered to the admins was obtaining tickets off Craigslist. They are slightly over priced but available as I have confirmed by calling them. I tried my best to help fix this problem. I even offered to pick the tickets up myself. Why don't I just buy them? Simply, because I can't afford them. |

Kippu, Twitter wasn't created to be used for contests. I don't see how this incident should have any reflection on if Twitter sucks or not, there is no relevancy on the topic.
If I gave someone with a low competence in computers a laptop and told them to write me an email and they fail to do so because they don't completely comprehend the mechanics behind creating one, that doesn't mean computers suck. |

I want to make clear i'm not looking to ruffle any feathers here i just don't like people being unfairly treated. |

Seriously, I am not the type to participate in these contests but I love Utada and my bday coming up... it was hard not to pass it up! And Utada's album didn't do so well in America and her "In the Flesh" tour are in relatively small vendors. It hurts a lot because this will probably be the last time in a while before she even goes on tour in America. |

Well I hate twitter all together. And that whole "twitter sucks" was an add from my opinion. It's confusing and a pointless site. (Sorry to those who love it) I can see I'm not the only one who thinks it's confusing since clearly someone messed up and didn't know how to use it properly. Anyway, I'm glad they're not going to use twitter anymore. It would suck even more if this were to happen again. Also.. is this thread announcing this really necessary? |
