ABC News is reporting that a Michigan company making military weapons for the U.S. Armed Forces has references to Bible verses stamped on them. (ABC in its total ignorance calls them “Secret Jesus Codes.” No, they are references, as there are no secret “codes” in the Bible. Sorry, ABC.) The references are stamped on the high-powered rifle sights:

One of the citations on the gun sights, 2COR4:6, is an apparent reference to Second Corinthians 4:6 of the New Testament, which reads: “For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.”

Other references include citations from the books of Revelation, Matthew and John dealing with Jesus as “the light of the world.” John 8:12, referred to on the gun sights as JN8:12, reads, “Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Unfortunately, the negative reaction centers on “church and state” issues and not where it should: Just how does a Christian message fit with an army waging aggressive war and invading countries that were not at war with us?

It's the same thing with car owners with bumper stickers or bubble heads on their cars, ever heard of customizing?

considering the first commandment is "thou shall not kill" it seems quite stupid.
but from a marketing perspective it is quite smart

Honestly 90% of the people using the guns have no clue what they are for. If I saw one without reading this article I will be honest and tell you I would have just assumed it was some sort of code used to track the model and type of sight. This doesn't bother me honestly, the non religious gun users has no clue makes no difference to them, and the religious one can at least maybe get some comfort from a reminder of his beliefs while he is on the battlefield. Also the bible also says "an eye for an eye" and features god destroying entire cities because he feels they are corrupt. It probably has more mixed messages in it than any other book in existence, just like most other religious texts.

The only Bible quote that belongs on a gun is Ezekiel 25:17
I'm not Christian nor am I a gun owner, but I'd pay for a weapon with that!

Isn't the number pretty small? If so, I don't see the big deal... Besides about spreading the religon.... I don't think anyone is running up and seeing the number on the weapon...
