Well I don't think anyone should be discriminated against whether or not they commit misdeeds.

I can see why you're a little sour on this topic. But really after hearing that guy's situation you still think it's okay to be beaten for dating a woman a few years younger? On those websites it doesn't specify on their crime. A neighborhood could turn their backs on this guy and not know whether his crime was really severe. That doesn't sound fair, does it?

EDIT: Well it was useless replying xP I basically repeated what previous posts wrote.

No, that's totally ok.
Right now I can't really say. I haven't been able to accept what those people did and said to me, but I guess I do have some empathy for him, but only a little.

Well it's a little nerve-racking when you know one lives right next door to you >.> you can't help but wish they would just stay away, even though they are people like you, who have done bad things

I feel that sexual offenders, or any sort of criminal for that matter, should be treated differently but to an extent in accordance to what they did.

For example, referring to the case before where the sex was clearly consensual (and actually would be legal in most states), I feel like that should be considered a very minor misdemeanor if anything.

On the other hand, people that abduct children and terribly abuse them, or even people within their own homes, need to be kept an eye on. Their employers, neighbors, etc should be made aware of what they have done in the past, even if they served their time. This isn't done to further punish the criminal but to help the rest of us keep ourselves and our loved ones safe.

I think it is completely fine to monitor them completely......I think saying "Oh but they deserve a second chance" is being completely idealistic....I would love to say that but honestly if I had a kid and he was running around the neighborhood HELL YA I would want to know if there are any sex offenders and if there are of course I am going to treat him differently. I am not going to be blatantly rude and mean to him but I am not going to communicate with him if I don't have to and I am not letting my kid get anywhere near him. You reap what you sow and if you are a sex offender you did something worthy of being monitored for. It is not like the person stole a candy bar from a store.....It is bigger than that.

Only to the least possible reasonable degree.

If they were molesting children, no certainly they should not work in a school--it's like employing a bank robber in a bank, just plain a bad idea.
On the other hand, should they be allowed to live where they would like? Of course they should be able to. Children exist in this world, and forbidding someone from living near children places an unreasonable burden on him or her.

We are all human, and stripping human dignity from someone because they stripped someone else of theirs is unjust.
To to so, we may as well make rape the punishment for rape.

Now he is on that sex offenders list.. Do you think that is fair!

lmao! i find that very funny, but not fair tho, well he was dating a 12-13 year old when he was like16? maybe close to 17 idk but ppl do worse shit, he should of fought harder hes kinda screwed, and my opinion on this matter is i think sex offenders should get there dicks chopped off, and thrown on a island in the middle of no where same for the women, well everything but the chopping part maybe take there tongue... idk. you gotta look at it this way most ppl that get out of jail for a crime end up doing the same thing again so its good to keep a track on them, they really shouldnt cry about it they did the crime, should just be happy they're not still in jail.

"no she is only one year difference.. he just turned 18.. before she turned 17 by a month. "
But that does not matter.. If you turn 18.. and your girlfriend at the time is a year younger than you.... you better brake up with her then and there or your in deep shit.

Well, technically you can be registered as a sex offender for the most inane subjects. Busting for a pee so do it in a public place and a copper catches you? You end up on the sexual offenders register, which means people (at least in the US) know you're a "sexual deviant" who should be killed or worse, simply for peeing in a public place.

Been with your b/f or g/f for a couple of years in a state where the legal age is 18+? You're 17 years old and decide to send your significant other a treat, a photo of yourself not fully dressed. Sexual offender, the person that sends the picture for distribution of said image, and the person that receives it.

People who are on a sexual offenders list for actual crimes against children, yeah, they should be tracked by authorities, but when people on that list are harmless and who's crime is a simple lapse in judgement, should everyone know where they are so they can hunt them down and beat the heck out of them?

Case in point, not so long ago a crowd gathered around a house, threw paint over it and wasn't very nice to the person inside, their only crime? They were a pediatrician, the crowd saw the word and took it to think "child molester", people are generally too stupid to allow them access to information which is potentially life threatening, and with media frenzies rilling up the mod mentality, stupidity reigns.

Why is it automatically assumed that a sex offender is looking to screw children? Most sex offenders aren't pedofiles at all
