I've been a paying member for 2 months now and I didn't get my 2000 CR points.

I don't know if any premium member has gotten their points since late last year.

As it doesn't affect the function of the site, I expect this is the type of problem that if it can't be resolved in about 15 minutes, it gets pushed to the bottom of the "To be fixed" list. It is a form of technical triage.

When I noticed the points weren't being given out normally, I was curious and compared some pages with their cached versions. I was able to find a few examples of people getting the 1000 pt bonus, but it looked like most people didn't. I believe the last time the premium bonus points were given to everyone was the start of November '12.

It actually does affect the function of forums. I can't create a new thread until I get 500 points... It would take me about 20 years at my rate, just to post 1 thread. I flipped my lid to support citing that it encourages spam, not preventing it.

Realistically, CR Points should just be a counter of activity and loyalty. Not an encouragement for possible spam.

I thought I saw someone recently originate a thread who had far less than 500 points.

I found an apparent example. Look at the points for the user making the first post:

Hmm, weird. When I try to make a New Topic in General, it gives me a 404 page, the same error when I try to make any new topic. When I had email'd support, they had said I did not have enough CR points.

I am pretty sure that it is specially allowed in the help section.

As mentioned, you should be completely capable of creating threads in the Help/Support section.

We are not limiting users from creating threads in this section, as there can be many things you need help with as a new (or old) user - and the best way to get help is by creating a thread here or contacting support after all.

HOWEVER!

Exactly because new users are still getting used to CR, we set the limit of 500 CR points back because threads were being created without even checking the rules or anything.

Originally back in 2005 or so, you actually needed 500 points to create threads.
At some point this limit was removed, but as time passed we realised that it was a necessary evil - and it was once again applied.

There are TONS of discussions you can join on CR, you should have no trouble finding places to chat and discuss your favourite inane topics. Once you've matured as a user (i.e. reached 500 points), we presume that you've grown knowledgeable enough to create new topics without breaking the rules.

You also gain points by commenting on users' profiles, and I think you get points as well for posting comments on episodes.
Should there be a topic you are burning to discuss about, either save up enough points or contact someone who has enough points.

I hope this explains why, if you are still curious about something I said or anything else - just ask! We are here to help.

I just think 500 points is way to steep. I'm not that much of a social bug to even reach 100 points in a whole year. I would think 100 or 200 would be acceptable, not 500. I would need to make exactly 250 posts in forum to get the privilege to post a new topic? That is a bit insane for my case, and I'm sure others can agree.

People at one point or another, will break rules. Its inevitable. People make mistakes. And unfortunately, forums that have a lot of rules, will suffer with rules being broken. That is the harsh reality. I just think CR is going about it wrong. People shouldn't be limited in this fashion, especially when the breakpoint is that high.

Why not have it more facilitated, where mods could remove topic creation privilege upon rules being broken and would require that user to reach the ridiculous 500 point mark?

I'm pretty sure you can buy your way in. Most of my points come from being credited a thousand for every month I'm a paid member. So, pay for a month's membership , get points, and start a topic, if you don't feel like being social enough to earn that many points.

I am more then fine watching ads and waiting one week to view delayed content. Paying just to make topics is ludicrous, so I'm not going to do that >.>

I'm not that social for many reasons. The obvious is not being social ladybug. Another is not having the same interests with the vast majority. I don't play forum games, and commenting on videos (spoiler heaven) or others' profiles is pointless to me. And I'm sure there is quite a few people just like me. When time comes to when they want to post a new topic, they'll be confused and (maybe) furious to a point where CR becomes annoying. It isn't a very achievable goal to post 250 times just so I can make a new topic. Why should I be forced to post that many times just to start a topic?

EDIT:

...Well, I can't even make topics in Help/Feedback... There isn't a single place I can do that.
