Search Engine Knowledge is a good thing. If you're doing things that make your own (real) name look bad, that is a problem for you.
Here is what I get from Google, I'm glad I have 6 google spots on this list with my name.
http://www.google.com/search?source=ig&hl=en&rlz=&q=Ryan+Rampersad&btnG=Google+Search

Most websites track IP addresses, among other things. They also track your browser information, OS, screen resolution, the page you came from, if you came from a search engine or came directly, time on a page and much more. You can even look at the source of this page, scroll to the bottom and look for quantcast and urchinTracker. Those things are tracking codes.

I'm not all that worried. Who cares if they find out I like to read Fullmetal Alchemist yoai? =P

I've done many searches for me & my family, but I can find not a single shred of information about me or my family. It might just be because I'm a failure at searches, though.

Credit and Debit cards do that so you can make sure nobody else is using your card. However it is wrong for the government to look at it without a warrant.

You know those "Preferred Savings Cards" you get at Albertsons, Vons, Ralphs, and other grocery stores? They track all the purchases you make. They use it for market research and send you bunch of their weekly sales magazines in your mail box.

Then you have the whole biometric ID issue. The US government wants to force people to make biometric ID that holds your fingerprints, DNA, blood type, etc.

Scary stuff.

No. It's not. The data is collected on most pages, if not all, of CR (I would guess, I'm too lazy to look.) is for statistics. Like how many people go to a page, what browser they use and what search terms they like to use. It's useful data to the site's growth and improvement. Sites use the information they collect to make the users experiences better on the site.

Your phone calls are safe. The Patriot Act only applies to you if the Feds thing your doing something sketchy.

Best line of Defense for Internet Privacy.

1) Protect your computer.
Get an anti-virus program if you accidentally downloaded a virus that starts stealing info. Get a spyware blocker such as Spybot. You can get a firewall but that is optional.

2) Get firefox.
If your using any other type of browser your just asking for spyware, spam, and viruses. IE sucks...nuts. Add the extension adblock and you will never see an ad ever again. EVER!

3) Common Sense.
This is the biggest one. My suggestion is never give out your full name. Your first name is fine but make up the rest. If anything is too good to be true online then it is.

If anyone wants to add somthing go ahead...

As for real life privacy, ummm, too much to say...and not much you can do. If you want laws like Biometric ID's go vote or write letters to your government.

I dunno why a government wants to profile its own people. The only reason why would be to police them so that the current administration will stay in power indefinitely.

Also, you can't tell a government off. If you could, I'll join your side.
