a short knife is great. lets not forget you don't always pick when or where the fight happens: often it comes to you when you're least prepared. a gun works well at range, but if your enemy is right in front of you then that is not a viable option. this is especially true if you're being robbed or assaulted. however, i've been to bars before, and damn, bottles make such great weapons too. sometimes the best weapon is the most clever one improvised from the surrounding area.

Not true. If you are trained in how to use a pistol well you know how to make distance or use the wepon at close to point blank range if nessary.

best and the worst qft. what i mean overrated is about people being invincible with guns. where in fact, if your aim sucks you suck. the butt or the handle of a gun can still be used as a weapon just as a handle to a sword. it just takes commonsense to use this weapon efficiently.

guns just needs commonsense if you need to use them properly. the butt or the handle of the gun can be used as a weapon also.

No?
You're more likely to use it and get into shit loads of trouble. Even if you're just a bystander you're going to jail for being with the person who has the knife. And if they killed someone, you're a murderer too.

Just use your house keys and stab them in the eyes XD

But if you're talking on terms of whether it would be better to have a knife in a fight, then yeah i think a knife

im not sure about knives being used as a self defense but if are going to use 1 then when some1 is attacking you, you can never be afraid to cut him or he will just use it against you

for me i dont like using weapons, i rather use my surrounding and my body (if u know what i mean )

A knife? Where's the distance? If a guy has a gun aimed at you and is 15 feet away, you're doomed with a knife, sure you can throw it, but it might not take him out. Besides, theres an expression: Never bring a knife to a gunfight.
An even better expression: Never run into a gunfight and think you're gonna survive. Its interchangeable with knife fight too

the whole distance thing isnt practicle though. a robber isnt going to rob you from 15 feet away. and no body walks in a gun fight unless your in a war.no body "duels" now a days...peace over war

I'd used karate instead of a knife since karate was made for to protect against weapons

karate wasnt made to protect against weapons, it was most likely used to subliment weapons.Ancient martial arts were often used with weapons. And karate has plenty of weapons that are still trained tosay at its disposal. some would even claim karate started off with weapons...peace over war

The knife is probably one of most ancient and useful weapon to have way before our ancestors were alive. If you were to be in a fight between a guy thats twice your size with no weapon and the only weapon you have is a knife, that would be the only thing between you ending up dead or the other guy falling to the ground.

using the butt of the gun makes no sense though. Its no longer a deadly weapon that way. And if its not deadly, its not a threat. The 1st thing taught in all gun defense classes in all martial arts is to get out of the line of fire.Even ordinary civilians that have survived gun fights unarmed can be seen moving the barrel out of the way,Its common sense. If you move the barrel for them, then u have just turned it into a striking match and helped creating the 1st and most important step in gun defense. The rest is a wreslting match-a fight on even ground.

Even criminals go straight for the cop's gun b4 it is drawn. If the cop is alone, they usually dont survive if its more then one guy.peace over war

I have a foldout knife on my keychain though I've only physically used it as a screwdriver or to cut some random object

But I was out by myself once around 2 am and 2 people quickly approached me from behind to ask if I had change for a dollar or some equally stupid question. Pretty sure they wanted me to get close, off-guard and with my wallet exposed so they could mug me but I just turned, confidently said 'No!' (which was true) and continued on my way. They followed behind me for a little bit but probably realized I had a knife on my keychain so they went to the other side of the street.

Moral of the story, weapons can be used to prevent violence.

Hey, man, I got an idea

why don't you just go have some amateur MMA or Boxing matches or talk on a forum about MMA or w/e instead of trying to show off on crunchyroll

furthermore...any weapon you carry can probably be turned against you in close quarters, unless it's your own fists

also...don't write peace over war at the end of your posts if you keep talking about killing

I see that you were trying to make a point but don't you think that's taking it a bit far--a warzone?

also...Idk if it's b/c of New Orleans specifically but Louisiana has always had the highest or very high homicide rate per 100k, in fact according to the chart i'm looking at on this page: http://www.deathpenaltyinfo.org/murder-rates-1996-2008
the rate dropped to 9.9, the lowest it's had in years, in '05(Katrina) from 12.7 in '04 (all other years were also around that number).

If the chart's inaccurate I guess my goose is cooked then...
