It is better than a lot of the animes airing right now, in terms of story actually development.

As a fan of Baccano!! I simply HAD to check out this show--same production company, same author of the novels. And god, Narita can create some of the best, most interesting characters ever. Even the few characters I don't like still fascinate me beyond belief!

I just kind of wish the show would be a bit quicker storyline wise, but I'm not adverse to back story when it's interesting (and it IS).

Agreed, though I don't think I am minding the slower pace of this one compared to Baccano!! Durarara has 26 episodes (or 24), so it can be told at a more leisurely pace. I can understand how people might be confused with the storytelling. Both Durarara and Baccano were adapted from novels and the storytelling is non-linear and kind of literary. For me, that's great, since I read a lot of books. Both shows stand out to me since their source material is literary, rather than the usual adaptations from manga and (ugh) visual novels.

Durarara is the best show this season, IMO.

When I first watched the opening, I was hooked (kinda). I really liked the style of the anime and already thought this was going to be a good anime. The opening song is different, kinda calm at first then become intense later. It shows you all the characters you will encounter.

On the first episode I really thought it was about that black hair guy (forgot names already aha) which made disappointed me a little because I hate watching anime about loser shy boys, but then as I continued on with the episodes I realized it wasn't only about him. It's actually filled with various characters and different narratives that are all connected in someway.

The ending song is fantastic. It's very cheerful and it's different than most of the Jpop I hear.

This anime leaves you that suspense and will add more confusion as it progresses. I think ti's one of those anime where you can't just watch it once to get the whole story, you might have to watch it again and be able to find the stuff you have missed before.
I really recommend it!

I first noticed this anime when I watched the ending. Then when I saw the opening I knew I was ganna love Shizou. He is awesome! I absolutely love Izaya because he's the master manipulator. My first impression on it was "This is the best thing since...I don't know!" I'm very passionate about my anime. This one is just so unique and weird. I loves it!

It's absolutely amazing. I haven't met anyone that had something bad to say about it, so it's not just me. I can't wait to watch the 13th episode! >.<

I first thought, "what the hell is with the characters' attitudes?" because it was so strange and they are so confusing. (esp. Izaya and Shizuo)
But as the story goes on, I got hooked to it.

The gf and I love the series especially since there is still an element of surprise left in it. One character that I had pegged for leader of the Dollars was completely wrong. She was guessing what the next twist was going to be as we were watching episode 11 earlier last week. It's nice to find a series that makes you speculate with other people, rather than just clarifying plot.

The intertwining of individual stories is probably the biggest hook of the series though. Watching how each character affects another's life is fantastic. How they are going to continue this with episode 13 will be interesting, to say the least, considering how almost all of the stories are joined in some way now.

And yes, <3 the intro.

First impression about Durarara: I find it kinda 'bored' and feeling confused. But then, I kinda enjoy the story.
