Life if like a LED with battery.

i had a discussion about how the soul and the ghost and the ego is.
so i thought of this metaphor.

in which the soul is the light, and the body is the LED the battery is just the life lenght

when the battery is empty, the light stops, means that the soul is gone, and the LED is just an empty hulse
nothing happens its just over

how do u think abt the combination?

If you believe that a human is basically nothing more than a lot of physical components working together, then your analogy kind of works. I would argue that a better analogy would be, say, a computer where everything is stored in RAM and a critical component fails due to wear and tear, causing the contents of the RAM (the mind/soul/etc.) to be lost - our equivalent to the battery (energy source) would be our food, which in principle can continue to be replenished. Also, the LED's light can stop for a long time, but unlike a human "soul" it can still be restored by connecting it to a suitable alternative energy source.

However, if you believe that the "soul" is separate from the body, the battery/component failure only destroys the physical aspect, and the soul continues without the body, whether going into an afterlife or being reborn into a new body. In this case, the LED analogy doesn't work.

Not only that your "light = soul" analogy doesn't work, it also doesn't explain the degrees of complexity with individual personality, aka what makes us posses different souls.

And even with the best possible resources available to extend the battery/life length, you forget that our own bodies all have programed cell death, aka the natural progression of apoptosis. This is seen in biology an important natural process of renewing and revitalizing the life cycle.

Therefore there's no soul without awareness, when our bodies are designed to be capable of feelings. Our logic shapes the universe, but it's our feeling that guides us.

If that was the case we would have to rewrite what life is. Last time I looked awareness was not needed to be considered life. On top of that what is the most scientific or logical definition for a soul. Life Force? Awareness? the ability to think? Emotions?
We must first brake down what it is to be a soul. One can obtain emotions without being self aware. So if its Self Awareness, than there only a few animals that have a soul. The cell is living and yet is has no awareness, of it self or that around it. It just simply is. Are you saying the a cell is not life?

I'm saying that due to biology, we now have a definition of life form in natural setting. However the concept of soul is a metaphysical existence, which requires an equally metaphysical definition. And that's entering the field of philosophy.

how do you mean a led can go out? if its only connected to the battery it cant go out until u break something or unfasten it?
i hadnt thought about battery chances.

thanks all for ur reaction
but some things are 2 difficult for me yet.
altough it looks like some of ur reactions are far to much to the sience side
and i meant it more like the (trichotomy?) from Plato etc.

"one can not really define something that is only Metaphoric. So one must create definition for the word. Soul, we as people must create a meaning/standard for a word, once that is chosen we can use that standard to define what has and what does not have a soul. Other wise we are stuck with metaphoric meanings only, witch do not have any standards so if their only Metaphoric its meaningless. Just because is no standards!"
