Any girls out there play video games? Why did you start playing video games? What video games [on which console] do you play? All the girls I know who play xbox have been influenced by the male member in their family, including myself. Or, influenced by male friends [aha, I'm over-using the word male?]. My brother got me to play counter strike for a bit when I was like 10, now I play xbox360 FPS [mainly MW2]. Every time people find out I play video games, or any girl at all plays video games, it's as if they go into a state of shock before comprehending. Ahh well, I keep playing video games anyway (: |

Its not that serious. Only a small percentage of closed minded people really think girls are confined to playing stupid games, petty games or none at all. People really need to stop putting so much emphasis on the whole "female gamer" thing. About two out of every five online players are female, its not a rarity or that big of a deal anymore.
Girl gamers are accepted in the community. Wtf?! has their been some sort of prejudice and segregation I wasn't aware? Please, inform me. The stereotypes have a reason for existing, it's a STEREOTYPE. Just like most, they all originate from some form of truth. There are stereotypes about gamers in general. That's how the world works and always has. |

Strangely enough, I became influenced to play video games from my grandmother at the age of 5.
Our all time favorite game will always be Crash Bandicoot. We loved the boulder level, but always died a lot. Back then my favorite system was Playstation, but now I have an Xbox360. I don't have a lot of games for it though, but the newest one I've bought was Bayonetta (my friend said it was just a rip off of Devil May Cry with boobs) actually he's right, but I had fun playing either way. And what stereotypes are you speaking of, and what do you mean by accepted? I've had no problems with the gaming community because I was female (actually, I was more than welcomed). Sure, there was your typical asshole, but I payed them no mind. |

It is accepted throughout the community, still people least expect girls to be girl gamers since the image of a girl gamer in their head is quite skewed. Girl gamers aren't exactly a big deal, but are still sparks of interest when they are mentioned (: |

XD They really must be shut ins if they are a gamer themselves and still hold the stereotypes about female gamers. All male gamers on and offline except for two that I have met, don't think those things about about females gamers anymore unless the female gives them a reason to. But I guess you can't control who you cross paths with so I can see why finding open-minded, normal people would be a surprise. No sarcasm intended When I play online no one is surprised that I'm a girl unless I never mentioned it and they knew me for a long time. Its usually "Oh you're a girl. Cool. So what games do you play? Really? Let's get a match together some time." Not, "OMG IT'S THE RARE FEMALE GAMER! HOW FAT AND UGLY ARE YOU?! DO YOU LIKE THE WII AND SUCK AT EVERYTHING?!" |

Ditto, like in an xbox party online when people hear my voice they are like "Is there a girl in this party? Or is it a guy cause you know... some dudes sound like girls." lmao. When they find out I'm a girl they're like "Oh sweet. -buddy requests-" Then again I told this guy in my class that I played MW2 and it was like this: "LIAR!" "No, I'm serious." ".... HOLY SHIT YOU PLAY? OHH DEE! HELEN PLAYS MW2!!!" [he yelled so the whole class could hear] But I guess he's rare-ish >.> |
