I don't like to label myself a "girl gamer"; I'm just a gamer. I associate "girl gamer" with really annoying girls on Xbox LIVE who I don't get along with because they're just annoying. Girls that:

a) Talk really loud because they want all the attention and are often repeating," GUYS I'M A GIRL OKAY? I'M NEW AT THIS, SORRY. I'M PLAYING ON MY BOYFRIEND'S XBOX ELL-OH-ELL"

b) Have the alpha female thing going on. Often, when there are other girls in whatever game I'm playing, they're really rude to me because I'm a female too; they want to the be the only center of attention there so they act all obnoxious.

It's annoying.

Any girls out there play video games? ME! XD
Why did you start playing video games? Cuz. They're fun, and always had some sort of wacky appeal. XD
What video games [on which console] do you play? Wii, DS, PS.

I technically was influenced by my cousin (who is male) but I started gaming waay before that.

uh i seriously didn't get into gaming until i turned 20 haha. I was introduced by my lovely friend and her brothers. It's fun, but seriously after 2 hours my eyes BURN and then the occasional motion sickness lol. anyways, i like the wii, and then the xbox. I usually like to play zombies and katamari. FUN

I'm not sure why...but my mom thought it was okay for boys to play video games and "waste" 5+ hours a day on them (Boys will be boys, she defended her argument)...but when I played Banjo Kazooie on the N64 and my old Gameboy Pocket: Dragon Quest Monsters back in elementary school, she chewed me out and told me to get a life.

So I think maybe some of the stereotypes may have started with the parents over the ages...which times have changed so quickly and emphasis is no longer on being a good house wife, but rather praising the stay at home dad while the mom works. And female gamers are up there near 50-50 with guys too. Thank god feminine stereotypes are on their way out the door~!!!

I also used to play Daggerfall, Magic Carpet, & Syndicate Wars on the computer lol...& Tombraider before we got the ps1. And long before we got a PC we had the old school Apple computer with the hard & floppy disks. I used to play Chopper all the time & a handful of other games.

Zork lol...

I agree. My parents didn't stop my sister & I from playing when we had the nintendo, but when we got a new system(& simultaneously got older) they didn't get as much of the games we would have liked. They bought my little bro games all the time, but never really for us. Otherwise, I probably would have become a hardcore gamer. There are so many titles I never had the chance to play when I was growing up. Kinda makes me sad lol.
