have you guys seen this? http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2010/02/12/final-fantasy-xiii-from-90-to-40-in-2-months/ http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2009/12/24/fans-disgusted-by-final-fantasy-xiii/ beware site is NSFW

Basically it says that FF13 has taken a big nose dive in price! It has been said that the game is too linear! It has some weird bugs!

Did square enix make too many copies? Why have japanese gamers cried foul? Is it justified?

Just type "Final Fantasy XIII linear" and see what comes up on google.

The game is just about to be released here in north america. Will we as buyers not care?

Many of us fans worship this series, and is square enix hoping that millions of us will still buy the game anyways?

Are we just obsessed with Graphics? Or do we desire more substance in our latest genreation of games?

They had some months to prepare this game for its US relase,so lets just hope that the game has been fixed (for the bugs at least).

I welcome all thoughts on this game and what will be an intersting footnote in the history of videogames!

Are you freaking telling me that a video game used to cost $90, and people would actually buy it?

Haha this is to be expected. My bf and I were gonna buy the game but when we saw the map of it, it was a no sale. Said he wouldn't support such a craptastrophe even if it was a nickel.

Final Fantasy was supposed to be just that, the FINAL Fantasy. I think they're just finally giving in and getting lazy. A series can go but just so far =/ Whilst they could have half-assed a new story, made new fighting mechs, made a better map, and more characters and had people slobber over that release, for some reason they didn't. And now they're suffering in profit it.

Dunno why you wouldst put effort into making something, especially equally or better than its predecessors, poor choice on their part. Gamers aren't as stupid as these companies think.

-.- .... Ok the thing about that linear map...Thats only a part of the first part of the game. It was meant to be linear so you can learn about the characters and battle system. After, once you get into the Pulse area, you get more freedom and it becomes even better than it was.

You can do that without making a completely staightline map, make a training area or tweak the story and styles. Other games have, its 2010, there's no real excuse for that.

Gonna have to agree with you, I really really hoped that this game was going to be good but 60bucks does not warrant a movie, If they wanted to make a movie go out and do so, do not force feed people a "game" because it's from a famous franchise. Hell I just got dragon quest 5 for the ds and this more of game than this so called movie will ever hope to be.

I'm sorry, but I don't see your point...
I can't tell you if the author of that article has any of his facts right, but I don't think the game was approximately 90USD upon it's release in Japan. They do have a limited edition of the game in Japan that could be the price range of the LE version. I can assure you though that I have followed this game very closely, and I have not even heard of there being any weird big bugs yet myself, but of course there are going to be a few minor ones. I have yet to play a game that I can not find something wrong with it, so I really don't see the big deal. As for the liner part... I don't care about that. A game being liner isn't going to stop me from playing it. I know of completely liner games that exist and are still very popular today.

The ENTIRE baseline of the FF series was that it was a open world game. So you'll suck the game's **** that hard just so you can play a dungeon? Please name to me completely linear games that is very popular, that stemmed from being an open world game.

Final Fantasy XIII is still open world.... it's not liner all throughout the entire game.

As for games that stemmed from being open world to going linear... I can't really name any games that have done that in the past, or will be. It doesn't really matters. I don't think of FF as a series, but each one as its entirely own game. I didn't know this was a matter of games going from open adventure to linear. And when I mentioned popular linear games I was mentioning games that started off linear like Mario and Sonic.

You make it sound as if its going to be the end of the world because you only move in one direction for a few minutes or so in the year 2010. Some games have a time where you must move in one direction for a little bit in this year of 2010, and they aren't all that bad.

Btw, FF has never been good at making a dungeons, so of course I'm not going to play it for a dungeon.

honestly back in the snes days I remember my parents forking over 70 dollars for a game! 90 dollars is awfully high but it's not that high in the scale of things. We all just got used to sony games being cheaper since disc media is cheaper to produce than carts. Honestly I haven't been excited about an FF game since FFT on the ps1 and that was as linear as it gets! I doubt I'll get FFXIII

Final fantasy crystal bearers, Final Fantasy Dirge of Cerberus, Final fantasy crystal chronicles are also games that werent very popular.

We all love our games, but Square enix and other companies are really in it for the money. It is a business.

Of course not every game will be a bona fide hit. companies have business margins, wages (for the workers), and other bills they have to pay. But still it all goes to the bottom line: WIll we buy the game? we are the bottom line.

I know sometimes it hurts to see our favorite franchise faltering, but it hurts me more to see us as fans having to suffer by some videogame executive's meddling.

It saddens me too, when I see some blindly loyal fans trying to justify a sub par game.

If im gonna spend $60+ on a game it better be well worth it.

sometimes it feels like hating a final fantasy game (or games in general) is like attacking a family member! We love them to death and hate to see them hurt.

We expect the best from our games and we expect better for our favorite next gen systems!

As of late, games have taken a nosedive in quality. I have seen a high rise in visual quality of games, and a drastic crash in storyline quality. The few games that are resonably close to a decent storyline are too short and stuffed with fillers to make the game longer. I remember having to spend 40-50 hrs just to play a good RPG STRAIGHT THROUGH. Now, I can finish it, straight through, in 10 hrs or so. Higher price, better visuals, but poorer storyline.

I'd much rather pay for a great storyline in old pixilated goodness than a 3D, HD surround sound masterpiece that I can complete in a day n a half or 2.

Oh how I've been waiting for this..I was on the website too reading up on final fantasy XIII. I was very excited until I saw that, and my friends being such a fanboy, tried to justify everything and will not hesitate to buy it. I love final fantasy but won't buy that poor excuse of a game. There are no towns to go through, it is just: cutscene > dungeon > boss battle > cutscene and back to the dungeon..I also read that somebody taking part in creating this game wanted to be a film director or something, and was very impressed with advent children, so maybe that is why this "game" is called a movie.
